Isolda Ventura

Ten years have gone by, and what started out as a dream and a challenge, the idea of helping the more underprivileged children in the world, has

come true. We can say, humbly but with pride, that we have done our bit to make the world a fairer, more human and committed place.

Our assessment is positive and it encourages us to press on: ten Ordesa Calls for Applications for Aid; 650 projects received; 2.5 million Euros granted to 54 winning projects in 40 countries in Africa, South America, Asia, and in Spain too; one million Euros in infant food donations (milk, cereals and jars), and more than 150,000 children all over the world lacking in resources who have received our support. This fills us with joy and satisfaction.

And as could hardly be otherwise, we wish to thank all those who have helped us with their selfless efforts and commitment over the past ten years, beginning with the Foundation’s Trustees, all the collaborators and the Awards Committee members. We would never have made it this far without their generosity and dedication.

We would also like to acknowledge the many charity organisations and their volunteers, who, through their sacrifice and by foregoing a life of comfort, help us to improve the lives of the less fortunate. Our admiration goes out to you for your hard work and determination, and we wish to call upon you to continue to make progress in the areas of solidarity and cooperation.

We also want to look to the future, with the determination to push ahead in the task of building a fairer world for everyone, particularly those who are never given the opportunity to have a decent childhood. Our goal and hope is that one day we will have no need to exist…

Thank you to all those who have helped us to replace a tear with a smile on many children’s faces.

President

01 Our priority objectives

Fundació ORDESA is an institution whose mission is to boost and promote the improvement of the living conditions, nutrition and health of children, mainly newborns, infants and children in their early years of life.

Fundació ORDESA was set up in 2002 on the initiative of Laboratorios Ordesa and as a result of the growing sensitivity among many paediatricians, pharmacists and other health professionals of the need to help meet children’s most basic needs. Laboratorios Ordesa, as the founding organisation, thus demonstrates its commitment to promoting its own private organisation to channel and contribute financial aid to humanitarian projects aimed at improving chil-dren’s health and nutrition.

Our priority objectives include the promotion and funding of projects, initia-tives and programmes aimed at providing care for the most vulnerable child population, lacking in resources and/or affected by socio-economic underde-velopment.

The direct financial aid awarded by Fundació ORDESA contributes to im-proving children’s quality of life, health and nutrition and helps them to develop properly as human beings.

BASIC PERINATAL CARE. This book is addressed to empirical or traditional midwives of underdeveloped countries, where a substantial reduction in the mortality rates of mothers and children is both possible and necessary.

The drafting and dissemination of professional, educational and informative printed materials, with recommenda-tions and tips for families, generally foreign-born, through materials translated into the most common languages of these groups. They are distributed in Spain by primary care centres and hospitals.

Other Fundació ORDESA activities

Donation of more than 180,000 Kgof baby food

(milk, cereals and jars)

The financial aid awarded to the selected projects is the most relevant part of Fundació ORDESA’s work, but it is not the only one. Since it was founded, Fundació Ordesa has made more and more dona-tions of products manufactured by Laboratorios Ordesa to different charities that help families without resources to buy children’s food.

Fundació ORDESA has also carried out other initiatives with a view to devel- oping printed materials for professional, educational and informative purposes:

Calls for Applications for Aid ORDESASince 2003, Fundació ORDESA has organised ten ORDESA Calls for Applica-tions for Aid to which more than 650 projects or initiatives from a wide range of organisations were submitted, targeting different countries, mainly in Africa, South America and India.

As of the Sixth Call for Applications for Aid (2008), it was established that at least one of the projects must be developed in Spain in order to help the child popula-tion with some form of disability or other disease that affects their quality of life.

The funding of the projects must always be based on three priority aspects:

CREATION or maintenance of infrastructures.

PURCHASE of healthcare facilities for infrastructure operation.

DEVELOPMENT of healthcare and/or nutritional programmes.
