The Good Shepherd for Tenor, Mixed Chorus, and Chamber Orchestra 1. CHORUS: He Shall Feed His Flock Like a Shepherd [Isaiah 40:11, DC 43:24] He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those with young. O, ye nations of the earth, how oft would I have gathered you as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, but yet would not! 2. ARIA: I Am the Good Shepherd [John 10:11,14; Matt. 11:28-30; DC 112:14, Jerm. 30:22; 3 Nephi 15:24, Rev. 21:4] I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Ye are my sheep. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Ye are my sheep. I am the good shepherd. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me. 3. CHORUS: The Lord Is My Shepherd [Psalm 23] The Lord is my shepherd, therefore can I lack nothing. He shall feed me in a green pasture, and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort. He shall convert my soul, and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for his Name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou shalt prepare a table before me against them that trouble me. Thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full. But thy loving kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. 4. SCENE: Feed My Sheep [John 21:1-7,10,12,15-17; Matt. 11:29; DC 112:14] CHORUS (women) There were together Simon Peter, and others of the disciples at the sea. The Good Shepherd was commissioned by a consortium of choirs including the following: St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Cincinnati, OH, Brigham Young University-Idaho, Rexburg, ID, and Fairfax United Methodist Church, Farifax VA. Dr. The first performance was April 17, 2016 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Terrace Park, OH conducted by Dr. Carlton Monroe and featuring Dr. Jason Vest as tenor soloist.
