additional actions to prevent such an attackfrom ever happening again. And recognizethat this was a terrible tragedy for India," saidMr Toner.

Noting that the relationship between Indiaand the US is strong and growing, he said,"As President Obama said, India has thepotential to be one of the great global powersin the 21st century. So, we want to see ourcooperation deepen, both economically, polit-ically and on security issues as well."

"In general, we want to see better, stronger, closer counter-terrorism cooperation, notonly between the US and India, but of all thecountries in the region, including Pakistan. We all need to be on our guard. We all needto be vigilant. We all need to cooperate andshare information and intelligence where wecan do that, in order to prevent futureattacks," Mr Toner said.

Government Closely...has kept a strict vigil on ISIS activities to

check its entry into India," he told reporters. The minister was responding to a query on

steps taken by the BJP led NationalDemocratic Alliance government at theCentre to check the spread of IS in the coun-try. In places like Hyderabad, police hasclaimed to have caught several youths whowere allegedly planning to join the IS andalso counseled them, he said.

Talking about the Dadri incident, where a52-year-old man was killed in a mob attackfor allegedly eating beef last week, MrChaudhary said, "The law and order situationin UP is not good. Communal incidents hap-pen regularly and that too in small villages.(Maintaining) law and order is a state subject, the Home Ministry issues advisory whensuch incidents happen," he said.

When asked about Uttar Pradesh minister,Azam Khan seeking intervention of theUnited Nations over the incident, the ministersaid, "He keeps on telling anything".

The minister attended the 23rd RapidAction Force (RAF) Day celebrations at thepremises of 99 RAF in Hakimpet on the city'soutskirts. He also said five new RAF unitshave also been sanctioned by the Centre toaugment the strength of the force.

Police Officer ...injuries, the officer said.He said a massive hunt has been launched to

arrest the terrorists.Police assisted by 14 Rashtriya Rifles have

cordoned off Aragam and a search operation isgoing on, the officer said.

the lynching of Mr Mohammed Akhlaq inDadri area of Uttar Pradesh over rumours thathe ate beef. His family has denied the allega-tions. His 21-year-old son Danish was leftcritically injured and is in hospital.

Mr Naqvi said some unfortunate incidentscannot affect the peace, unity and harmony ofthe country.

"The conspiracy to block the country'sprogress has been exposed. Those elementswho want to destroy the nation's harmony, prosperity and security can be defeated byour unity only," Mr Naqvi said, without tak-ing any names.

He said people should not fall into the trapof anti-national and anti-social forces.

Mr Naqvi said the time has come to "stophurting sentiments for votes" and that peopleof the country have repeatedly given thismessage to "political champions of secular-ism".

"It is the responsibility of all to protect thesafety and the socio-economic concerns ofpeople of the country especially the minori-ties. Narrow political interests should not beallowed to come in the way of fulfilling thisresponsibility," he said.

Mr Naqvi said steps taken by the govern-ment for development of weaker sectionsincluding minorities have created an atmos-phere of trust among them.

"Some merchants of votes are not able todigest this positive environment," he said.

Mr Naqvi said the government was movingahead with its commitment to inclusivegrowth and good governance.

"India's unity is strength for (its) progressand if this unity is broken, this will destroythe fabric of development. We can't compro-mise with safety and social harmony of thecountry," he said.

Mr Naqvi said the Bharatiya Janata Partywants to take the country ahead on the path ofdevelopment.

"We believe in politics of development, positive politics. We condemn divisive poli-tics which create confrontation in society. Wewill have to fight unitedly against thoseforces whose intentions are to destroy thecountry's social harmony," he said.

that some Hindus too eat beef.He blasted Mr Kumar and Mr Prasad for

spreading "delusion" on the reservation issuein the wake of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat'scomment on the need to review reservation.

"As a BJP president who will know RSSbetter - me or Lalu Prasad or Nitish Kumar?... I have stated clearly that BJP does notbelief in any kind of change in reservation injobs," Mr Shah said.

The BJP president who addressed four ral-lies at Samastipur, Munger, Lakhisarai andSheikhopura during the day blamed the LaluPrasad and Nitish Kumar 25-year-long rulefor poor condition of Bihar.

"Even today people of Bihar are forced togo out of the state for education, livelihoodand health," he said.

Making a scathing attack against Mr NitishKumar, the BJP president accused him of"stabbing at the back of the 2010 mandategiven to JD(U)-BJP coalition."

He alleged that Mr Kumar did it on the eveof 2014 Lok Sabha elections because of hisambition to become Prime Minister.

Taking a swipe at Mr Kumar for dreamingto become PM, Mr Shah asked whether hisparty JD-U has any presence in states outsideBihar like Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra,Odisha or West Bengal to take a shot at PMpost.

He alleged that Mr Kumar, the CM candi-date of the secular alliance, is merely a"mask" behind which is "jungle raj of theRJD chief."

Old Tweet ...legislators will be the country's highest

paid, drawing a salary of Rs. 3.2 lakh plusvarious allowances. Approval needs to comefrom the very lawmakers who want the hike;they say they don't earn enough to run theirhomes and offices.

Mr Kejriwal, who is very active on Twitterand tweets many times in a day, is yet to com-ment on this development. But a senior mem-ber of his party, Ashutosh, tweeted late lastnight, "For an honest MLA of any party, it'simpossible to sustain family/run constituencyoffice in meagre salary. Dishonest don't needsalary."

Outside Mr Kejriwal's residence today, alarge contingent of the Congress' youth wingprotested against the proposed salary hike. Inthis year's Delhi election, the Congress hadwon not a single seat.

The BJP, which has three, has also opposeda hike. "With its unlimited generosity in thematter of pay and allowances for DelhiMLAs, the Aam Aadmi Party Governmenthas become 'Khas' Aadmi Party," saidVijender Gupta, one of the three BJP law-makers.

"The case had many implications beyondthe murder. The motive of the murder is yet tobe cleared. Property and financial angles arestill to be probed which might have links withthe murder mystery," a CBI officer told IANSon condition of anonymity.

The officer said that the "recreation of thecrime scene" in the presence of the accused isa process to note down the sequence ofevents.

"To crack the case, it is necessary to con-nect all the missing links," the officer said.

He said they need to work on the Mumbaipolice investigation theory, which, as of nowhas revealed that the three accused allegedlyabducted Mr Sheena, murdered her, burnt herbody and disposed it off in a forest the nextday.

The move comes hours after a specialMumbai court today permitted the CBI toquestion all the three accused in the sensa-tional murder case.

Taking over the investigation of the casefrom Mumbai's Khar police, the CBI onSeptember 29 registered a new case undervarious sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal conspiracy, murder, abduction, destruction of evidence, causinghurt by giving poison and Arms Act againstMs Indrani, Mr Khanna and Mr Rai.

Khar police had arrested the accused trio inSeptember from Mumbai and Kolkata. Theyare presently in judicial custody till October19.

The decision to hand over the probe to CBIcame after days of uncertainty on the supervi-sory role of former Mumbai Police commis-sioner Rakesh Maria, who was shunted out inthe midst of the inquiry that he had proactive-ly helmed.

It will be difficult for the CBI to convince

the court to seek the custody of the threeaccused for further interrogation.
