Preface

Uncountable numbers of associations in agricultural supply chain are to befound throughout the region but not many have yet been recognized. Associations notonly could develop their roles in promoting communication within the chain but alsoas a possible negotiator and trust witness of agreements and price setting. Due tothese facts, AFMA is collecting a list of agricultural associations within Asia and Pacificto develop a directory which will be distributed to AFMA members, marketers andproducers. Associations in the list were first collected for preparation of the Workshopon Commodity Associations in Asia and the Pacific held in 11-13 November 2008 inBangkok organized by AFMA and FAO. Associations can represent producers, cropbuyers, processors, distributors, exporters and suppliers of support services and inputs.

At present, names and contacted address of associations in Australia,Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia,Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Republic of China (Taiwan),Thailand and Vietnam were listed. Key words of their products or services wereidentified as much as data available and according to feedback we received fromcontributors (see Acknowledgements). There are many associations that missed outfrom the survey and some details may need to be updated. We are happy to receiveany feedback or updated information for further improvement of this directory. Finally,we wish to thank all contributors for the information.
