As the father of a toddler, Councilmember Robert White knows it, too. The Bolstering Early Growth Investment Amendment Act of 2017, or the BEGIn Act, was inspired by his family’s difficulty finding quality child care and discussions with child care providers about how challenging and costly it is for them to operate. Increase public investment in infant and toddler development Create hundreds of new infant and toddler child care slots Expand access to quality child care for low- income families Boost the struggling child care business model with additional government grants, and by coordinating shared services like payroll support and bulk purchasing Keep talented infant and toddler educators from leaving the profession by increasing salaries Include child care providers in government decisions about early childhood development policy and facility regulations The Committee on Education and the Committee on Health will hold a joint public hearing on the BEGIn Act to get community input.
