Prepare for Surveillance VisitAt the end of this topic you should be able to:• advise the Farm Key Decision Maker what requirements
you have • collect the required stores for the visit

Liaising with Farm Key Decision Maker• Usually you will be invited onto farm• Others will resent the imposition…Remember at all times:• Be clear – make things black and white. Leave no room for appeal• Act calm and confident• Be honest – don’t hide information• Involve farm key decision maker in planning• Keep them involved/updated on progress• Thank them for their cooperation

Conduct Surveillance VisitAt the end of this topic you should be able to:
• Develop an action plan to complete surveillance tasks• Describe Red, Yellow and Green zones• Clean and disinfect on and off a farm• Accurately record clinical observations• Correctly fill out visit documents and label samples

Sampling SizeExpected prevalence
If prevalence is lower, sample size is bigger.
Group size If the group sampled is small the proportion sampled is bigger – 100% for a very small group.
Confidence (%) The pre-determined likelihood that a test result is true, ie 95% confident that the animal/herd/region is -ve
Test SE Sample size may be increased to allow for imperfect test Sensitivity
