1. Imperialism- The practice of strong countries taking economic, political, and military power over weaker countries.

2. Spanish-American War- A conflict in 1898 that began with the US coming to the aid of Cuba against Spain. It ended with the Americans defeating the Spanish and acquiring Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and Guam.

3. Treaty of Paris- A treaty that ended the Spanish-American War

4. Big-Stick Diplomacy(Roosevelt Corollary)- an extension of the Monroe Doctrine, announced by President Teddy Roosevelt in 1904, under which the U.S. claimed the right to protect its economic interests by means of military intervention in the affair of Western Hemisphere nations.

6. Missionary/Moral Diplomacy- The foreign policy under President Woodrow Wilson, that stated the U.S. had a moral responsibility to deny recognition to any Latin American government it viewed as oppressive, undemocratic, or hostile to U.S. interest.
