A Purpose for EverythingEverything we use is made from materials. From a simple
bed to a luxurious car - things that make modern living so
much easier, are all composed of materials with specific
functions. In the past, cavemen experimented with different
tools and through trial and error, they discovered which
ones work best for hunting, starting fires or as clothing.
We’ve come a long way since then and today we select
materials for tools and applications based on a scientific
understanding of the nature of materials and how things
are put together. Materials Engineers are the maestros
of this selection and application process and their role
is to study materials from a unified point of view – the
structure, properties, and ultimately what we can do with
it. With the multitude of new products being created and
improved upon today, the world certainly needs more
Material Engineers.

Course Outline In the first year of your degree programme, you will focus on building a strong foundation in the basic sciences. In your second and third year, you’ll learn about the fascinating world of materials and develop a deeper understanding of their basic components, properties and characterization techniques.
In your th i rd year, you ’ l l ge t the chance to app ly your knowledge and sk i l l s wi th in the indus t r y as you undergo an enr ich ing indus t r ia l a t tachmen t p rogramme wi th our es teemed par tner ins t i t u tes and corpora t ions .
You wi l l a lso have the choice of doing an industr ia l at tachment overseas in China, France or India through the Global Immersion Programme (GIP), or spend one semester s tudying in univers i t ies in USA or Europe through GIP or the In ternat ional Student Exchange Programme ( INSTEP).
By year four, most students usually know which materials specialization they are most passionate about. This is when you can choose from a wide range of Technical Elective modules that will enable you to complete your degree programme. You will also be required to fulfill 30 percent criterion in the General Education Requirements (GER) module, where you can choose courses like foreign languages, critical thinking modules, or classes in the arts and literature. The GER modules work in tandem with the materials science modules to prepare you to embark on your career as an all-round skilled professional.

Admission RequirementsTo obtain full details on general entry requirements, please visit the NTU Office of Admissions and Financial Aid website athttp://admissions.ntu.edu.sg
G.C.E. Advanced LevelA pass in H2 Level (a) Mathematics, and (b) Physics/Chemistry/Biology. A pass in Physics at least at H1 Level or at G.C.E. Ordinary Level is required where Chemistry or Biology is offered as the advanced level pass subject in (b).
Polytechnic DiplomaPolytechnic graduates with relevant diplomas in engineering will be considered for direct entry into the second year. A list of the relevant diplomas is available from the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. NTU also admits students with foreign qualifications equivalent to the Singapore-Cambridge Advanced Level.
International & Other QualificationsInternational students must have completed at least 12 years of general education or will be taking Year 12 national examinations in the year of application in order to be considered for admission. In addition to fulfilling the minimum entry requirements, applicants must also satisfy the minimum subject requirements.
Mathematics and Physics / Chemistry / Biology at Senior High School Level / IB Higher Level and Physics at Junior High School Level+
* Pass in Junior High School Physics is only applicable to applicants who have not read Senior High School Physics or IB Higher Level Physics.
ExemptionsG.C.E. Advanced LevelStudents who have obtained at least 3 As in the H2 Level subjects (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology) at the ‘A’ Level exam and at least a B4 in the General Paper will be eligible for the exemption of the following courses: Mathematics I, Materials Chemistry I or Physics.
Polytechnic DiplomaPolytechnic graduates may be exempted from courses for which they have obtained good grades during their diploma studies.
Your Home Away from HomeMore than just a place of learning, we feel that a school should be a
