My Brothers and Sisters,

Stewardship is a way of life; a spirituality which we hold in common with St. Francis and all the Saints. It finds expression not only in our support for the parish; it extends to our brothers and sisters wherever they may be and to care for creation. This month gives us inspiration to Stewardship in many different ways. There is our Sunday collection and the ministry fair on the last Sunday of September. There is our 2nd Collection to support our Social Ministry, and our commitments to the Diocesan Service Fund and the “Ignite” Campaign, and on the 25th Sunday on Ordinary Time, we will have a Mission Appeal to help our brothers and sisters in the Philippines. Stewardship goes out to all the world. Today is a World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, proclaimed by Pope Francis. This day of prayer begins a Season of Creation, a season of prayer and action, which ends with the feast of St. Francis on Oct. 4. Pope Francis’ encyclical on Care for Our Common Home begins with the words of St. Francis’ Canticle: “Laudato Si’, mi’ Signore” – “Praise be to you, my Lord”. As we work to be better Stewards, to live our Stewardship more deeply, let us pray with our Holy Father a prayer for our earth All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one. O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light. We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace. Let us cry out with Francis: “Laudato Si’, mi’ Signore” Fr. Joe

Mis Hermanos y Hermanas, La Corresponsabilidad es una manera de vivir; una espiritualidad que tenemos en común con San Francisco y todos los santos. Se encuentra expresión no solo en nuestro apoyo a la parroquia; se extiende a nuestros hermanos y hermanas donde quiera que estén y al cuidado de la creación. What identifies a steward? As Christian stewards, we receive God's gifts gratefully, cultivate

them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to

the Lord. We are grateful for the gifts we have received and are eager to use them to show our

love for God and for one another. We look to the life and teaching of Jesus for guidance in living as Christian stewards.

WHERE DO I START TO DISCERN MY SPIRITUAL GIFTS AND TALENTS?

THIS WEEK: Begin by praying every day for guidance and help in discovering your Spiritual Gift or Gifts.

God, giver of all Gifts

Guide me and direct me in the discovery of my Gifts.

What do you want me to do with the Gifts you have given me?

How might I use these special, precious Gifts that You have entrusted to me?

How might I serve your people, Lord?

When you are finished praying sit back and listen. Listen to words, phrases, pictures, and thoughts that you might see or feel in your mind’s eye or in your heart. Look at signs and feelings and pay attention to people, places and things that might be clues or answers to your prayer.

"When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him, and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say, 'Give your place to this man,' and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place. Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, 'My friend, move up to a higher position.' Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table. For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted." LITURGY…LIVE IT! (13) LITURGY OF THE MASS - PART II: THE LITURGY OF THE WORD “When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel.” General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM, 29.) THE FIRST READING At every mass we LISTEN to scripture. Catholics all around the world are united as they hear the Word of God. At daily masses there are two readings and on Sunday, three readings. During Sunday Masses, the first reading usually comes from the Old Testament, with rare exceptions including the Sundays of the Easter Season, when the first readings come from the Book of Acts. Also, during Advent, the first reading comes from the book of Revelation on Sundays. During weekday Masses, the first reading comes from either the Old or New Testament. At the conclusion of the reading we respond. “Thanks be to God”. What do we hear though from the assembly? A quietly mumbled “Thanks be to God”. If we truly listen to God’s Word our “Thanks be to God” should shake our stained glass windows. And then “Silence follows the first reading, while all meditate on what they have heard” (GIRM 45, 56, 128: LM 28)

(13) LITURGIA DE LA MISA – PARTE 2 – LITURGIA DE LA PALABRA Guando se leen en la Iglesia las Sagradas Escrituras, Dios mismo habla a su pueblo, y Cristo, presente en su palabra, anuncia el Evangelio. Instrucción general del Misal Romano (GIRM, 24). En cada misa ESCUCHAMOS las escrituras. Los católicos de todo el mundo están unidos al escuchar la Palabra de Dios. En las misas diarias hay dos lecturas y el domingo tres lecturas. Durante las misas dominicales, la primera lectura generalmente proviene del Antiguo Testamento, con raras excepciones, incluidos los domingos de la temporada de Pascua, cuando las primeras lecturas provienen del Libro de los Hechos. Young Adult and Campus Ministry Apostles on Mission is Back! "From Practicing Catho-

lics to Apostles on a Mission" is an 11-week formation program in leadership and evangelization for Young Adults in their 20s and 30s. Chidren/ Niños: Jesus tells us to always be ready to hear him. What are some ways that he speaks to us? —Jesús nos dice que siempre estemos listos para escucharlo. ¿Cuáles son algunas maneras en que él nos habla?

Youth/Adolecente: It is easy to get self-centered and greedy. What do you have in your life that is unnecessary? In your life, what keeps you close to God? What distracts you from your relationship with God?—Si Jesús estuviera tocando a tu puerta hoy y te diera una boleta de calificaciones de tu vida como Su discípulo, ¿qué calificación sacarías? ¿Cuáles serían las áreas en las que debes mejorar?

Adults/Adultos: On a daily basis, what are some ways to keep yourself “ready for God to act?” How do you pay attention to God’s often-less-than-obvious actions? — ¿Diariamente, ¿cuáles son algunas maneras en que se mantienen “preparados para que Dios actúe sobre ustedes”? ¿Cómo prestan atención a las acciones de Dios que a menudo no son tan obvias?

If you have not registered your children our next registration dates are as follows: September 9, 10, 11, 16,17, & 18 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Once classes are full we will no longer take registration for that class!

SPV YOUTH MINISTRY Hey YOU — High School Youth—are you new to SPV or just never came to connect to our Youth Group activities and fun! This is your personal invitation. We meet every Sunday evening in the GYM from 6:00 PM -8:00 PM. However, occassionly we have fun off campus. Come and get the schedule on where the fun will be! Our next meeting is this Sunday, September 1st.
