― To address TADs in their global and regional dimensions

― for policy definition, coordination and harmonization

Recommendations on priority diseases

Rabies – •All countries in Europe should make rabies a notifiable disease, where this is not already the case;•Intersectoral collaboration between animal and human health authorities be reinforced, using rabies as a flag ship disease to demonstrate the value of the One Health approach;•management of stray dog populations be implemented in accordance with the OIE standard on stray dog population management (Chapter 7.7 of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code), if appropriate;•Endemically affected countries consider the need to set up a regional vaccine bank for rabies.

• Early detection, early warning and rapid response

• Importance of the roles of the Veterinary Services (VS) and their Good governance of VS

• Tackling diseases at the animal source

•Objectives:

─Facilitate collaboration and maximize synergies among the countries and stakeholders in Europe─Prevent the occurrence and reduce potential impacts of animal disease events on human health, livelihoods and economies in Europe─Promote adequate governance of Veterinary Services in accordance with OIE standards─Ensure adequate funding to support implementation of disease prevention, detection and control activities, both in peace time and in crisis periods
