New Nano Definition of the EU Commission(October 2011)
New Definition of the EU commission about Nano (October 18th 2011) A natural, incidental or manufactured material containing particles, in an unbound state or as an aggregate or as agglomerate and where, for 50% or more of the particles in the number size distribution, one or more external dimension is in the size range 1nm – 100 nm
If the product contains Nano Material, it must be labeled on container and package. New recommendation will be fully effective on 11 July 2013 when all provisions of the Regulation become enforceable. All ingredients present in the form of nano materials shall be clearly indicated in the list of ingredients. The names of such ingredients shall be followed by the word “nano” in brackets. ex: Titanium Dioxide Titanium Dioxide(Nano)

BMDBM forms a complex with Al3+
salts from TiO2 coatings
Avobenzone degrades quickly in the sun.
Researchers have reported a 36% reduction
in UVA absorption by avobenzone after only
15 minutes of exposure. In vitro studies have
shown a 50% loss in UVA blockage for

Zinc Oxide is Safe & Transparent UVA filter
Zinc oxide is the closest thing to a
total "broad-spectrum" sunblock on
the market today.
It uniformly covers from 290 to 380 nm,
thus protecting against UVB and most of
the UVA spectrum.
No other sunscreen ingredient
provides broader protection.

A common caution in formulating a ZnO-containing product is to avoid or to minimize the use of anionic emulsifier or thickener such as
carbomers At pH values < 6, the solubility of zinc oxide increase and migration from the oil phase to water phase observed
For this reason, ZnO is usually incorporated into the oil phase of the formulation. Moreover these problems can be minimized or eliminated by
various means. Use of an optimized predispersion maintains the ZnO in a finely dispersed form in the oil phase. In W/O emulsions, such
dispersion techniques are sufficient to eliminate migration and efficacy of ZnO. ZnO can also be coated with hydrophobic materials in order to
reduce migration
