Image processing >20 years
The “Firewire Era”:
Only the Apple Macintosh and a few other PCs were factory equipped with a Firewire interface and hence, in most cases, we again needed to grab a screwdriver from the tool case!

2003 – USB 2.0 arrives on the scene
In 2003, VRmagic developed the first USB 2.0 certified camera for industrial image processing.
USB 2.0 cameras from various manufacturers successfully establish themselves in the marketplace.
For the first time, an industrial camera can be attached to a standard PC or Laptop without a screwdriver!

The world of industrial image processing has further wishes for standard interfaces

The GigE Vision standard was adopted in 2006:
1 GigE interfaces are standard in most PCs and Notebook Computers
Industrial image processing profits from the developments in the PC marketplace – primarily through the developments of Intel and Cisco

USB and GigE – will industrial imaging always rely on standard PC interfaces in the future?
High-end image processing is aggressively raising the bar for resolution and FPS
Industrial image processing is again searching for individual solutions

Go a long way to satisfying the bandwidth hunger of the marketplace
Good solutions, but they still require you to rummage in the toolbox
Special frame grabbers and cables required

Intel and Cisco are catching up and satisfying the IT marketplace’s “need for speed” with 10GBase-T in Ethernet backbones and high end WiFi routers.
Use of standard cables is again possible Cat 5e/6 with lengths of up to 55m Cat 6a/7 with lengths of up to 100m

NBASE-T
NBASE-T is the “little brother” of 10GBase-T and offers some nice features:
Use of standard cables with lengths of up to 55m using Cat 5e/6
2.5 and 5 Gbit/s bandwidth Lower power consumption than 10 GBase-T
which in turn results in smaller enclosures

The first consumer PC motherboards with 10 GigE interfaces are already available
Some Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices also come with 10 GigE interfaces
PCIe cards for under 100 USD may be used to update previous generation computers

…for your efforts, which now benefit the machine vision industry!
Standard 10 GigE Mainboards Standard 10 GigE Cable Standard 10 GigE Switches High performance computing and storage resources allow for the
processing of large amounts of data Components that are readily available and inexpensive
Thank you Intel und Cisco….
