MEET THE ARTISTS

KATE ALEXANDER is the Associate Director At-Large of FST, Founder of the FST Theatre School, and Project Director for The Suffragist Project. Alexander has directed

numerous productions and premieres on the FST stages including Bright Star; American Son; Ethel Waters: His Eye is on the Sparrow; Alabama Story; Cherry Docs; Straight White Men; Always...Patsy Cline; The Things They Carried; Native Gardens; Heisenberg; The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey; brownsville song (b-side for tray); and many more. Ms. Alexander has also been a resident actress for over 25 years. She is the recipient of numerous acting, directing, and public service awards, including FAER, She Knows Where She’s Going Award (Girls, Inc.), The Woman of Light Award, National Council of Jewish Women Award, The Woman of Power Award, the Sarasota County Arts Leadership Award, Education Award, Sarasota Manatee Jewish Federation, The Unity Award, and most recently, the One World Award.

MAYOR JEN AHEARN-KOCH has been the Mayor of the City of Sarasota since November 2019, and was elected as an At-Large Sarasota City Commissioner in May 2017. She earned

a Masters degree in International Political Economy from Columbia University in NYC and a BA in International Affairs from the American University in Paris. Ahearn-Koch also lived abroad in Paris, France for 12 years and is fluent in both French and German. She later went on to work in marketing in Sarasota, Florida where she eventually created her own consulting business.

Mayor Ahearn-Koch’s community involvement, neighborhood leadership, and background in business has helped her gain community trust.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT is an award-winning American newspaper reporter and broadcast journalist who covered current events, geopolitics, and issues of race. Hunter-

Gault worked for The New Yorker magazine (1963-67) and joined The New York Times as a staff reporter (1968-77), eventually becoming the newspaper’s Harlem bureau chief. Hunter-Gault gained a national audience after she joined the PBS news program “MacNeil/Lehrer Report” in 1978, and in 1983 became its national correspondent. In 1997, Hunter-Gault left PBS to become the Africa bureau chief for NPR, and in 1999 she was named Johannesburg bureau chief for CNN, a post she held until 2005. She published a memoir, In My Place (1992), and New News Out of Africa (2006), a book documenting positive developments in Africa. In 2005 Hunter-Gault was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Hall of Fame.

ARIEL BLUE is an actor, singer, and writer, based in Florida. She has been performing for the past twelve years in Mainstage productions with Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, FST

Improv, and The Golden Apple Dinner Theatre, and has performed behind legends like Christopher Williams and Sharon Scott. MEET THE ARTISTS

KIM CROW is a busy Emmy® nominated actress, voice over talent, and more. 7 Mainstage Productions for FST, Founder (1979) of Theatre Huntsville. Trained in London & Catholic U.,

Summa Cum Laude. In 9th grade, Kim was selected to put a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. As a college sophomore, she entertained the NATO troops in Germany for AFPEO Special Services, 7th Army. In 1979 she revolutionized audio artificial intelligence as the first voice to be digitized for use in NATO fighter planes and the Space Shuttle, a.k.a “Bitchin” Betty. Voicing for Kennedy Space Center. Kim also appeared as the first Mars Base Commander in their featured “Mars Mission.” Proud to be a “Dangerous Woman.”

CAROLYN MICHEL recently won the best actress award at the Oniros Film Festival in Italy. She has appeared on Broadway with Sid Caesar in Sid Caesar & Company. She was a resident actor

at the Asolo Repertory Theatre for 24 seasons. At Florida Studio Theatre, she has performed five one woman plays: All five characters in Family Secrets; Rose in Rose; Dorothy Parker: One Foot in Scarsdale; Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe; and Ann Landers in The Lady with All the Answers. Additional Roles at FST include Sylvia as Sylvia the Dog; Lillian Hellman in Cakewalk, as well as Daisy in Driving Miss Daisy at Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, among others.

RACHEL MOULTON is now in her first season as an Associate Artist at FST. Rachel has performed in 10 productions with FST, including four world premieres on the Mainstage

and in FST’s Stage III series: Grounded (2017 Handy Award), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Heisenberg, Honor Killing, Jericho, and Alabama Story. Other select regional theatre credits at Pioneer Theatre Company, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Virginia Stage, Syracuse Stage, and Florida Rep. KATHERINE MICHELLE TANNER is the Owner and Artistic Director of TREE FORT PRODUCTIONS, a production company and studio. Best known for her multi-award winning

performance of The Amish Project (Off Broadway and US Tour). Florida favorites include: Proof, The Exonerated, Gidion’s Knot, August Osage County, Hamlet, Metamorphoses, The Glass Menagerie, A Doll’s House, and many more.
