Bible Story Jesus Faces Unkind People

Page 2: 10/30/11 I Can Be BRAVE Ep 5 Lesson Plan

Group Activity Time

Craft TimeGroup Activity Time provides an active learning experience to review lesson concepts.

Option#1GOOD FRIEND RODEOHave the children scatter and move around the room. Choose one child to be the cowboy. Using a hula hoop as his lasso, the cowboy has one minute to “capture” friends by putting the hula hoop over the friend’s head. He then says “Howdy, friend” and moves to the next child. Play until each child has had a turn.

Say: In our story today, we learned about how Jesus was kind even when people weren’t kind

to him. He was brave as well, because he stood up to the unkind people. We can be kind and

brave just like Jesus was.

Option #2KIND OR UNKIND?Tape a line down the middle of your class. Kids will start out sitting on the line. Explain that you will ask questions about being kind and unkind. If the answer is kind they will move to one side of the line. If the answer is unkind they will move to the other side of the line. Identify to the children which side is which. After each question, the children go back to the line.

Say: In our story today, we learned about how Jesus was kind to everyone, even those

people who weren’t kind to him. Are these kind or unkind?

1. Hitting your brother or sister. Kind or Unkind?

2. Making fun of someone because they are different. Kind or Unkind?

3. Helping someone pick up their toys. Kind or Unkind?

4. Calling someone a name that’s not nice. Kind or Unkind?

5. Telling someone you want to be their friend. Kind or Unkind?

6. Being kind to someone when they are not kind. Kind or Unkind?

Option #3KIND TOSSHave the children sit in a circle. Roll or toss a ball to a child in the circle. Let them tell about something they can do that is kind. Have that child then roll or toss the ball to someone else in the circle. Continue until each child has had a turn.

Say: In our story today, we learned about how Jesus was kind even when people weren’t kind

to him. He was brave as well, because he stood up to the unkind people. We can be kind and

brave just like Jesus was.

Supplies Needed:

• Cardstock• Sequins, glitter, pom-poms, etc.• Glue

Directions:

1. Before class, copy the craft page onto cardstock.2. Have children decorate the cross.3. When doing a craft involving glue, consider giving children small portions of glue in disposable cups with a paintbrush or craft stick for spreading. This will help to control the amount of glue that ends up on the page.

Joshua 1:9 Be strong and brave because

God is with you”“
