Greetings! Hope you all well in spite of the wet weather. Many of us look forward to the flying season and rather expect the weather to be good, but this is quite exceptional. As the French say ”Que Faire” (What can you do about it?) We do have a couple of scheduled events ahead of us. The foamie warbird contest is scheduled for Sunday, July 21 and Sunday, August 11. These are fun and exciting, come out, participate and enjoy the event. The next and final float fly is scheduled for Saturday, August 3 (rain date, August 10). We are in need of a retrieval boat again or someone to haul Don Accorsi’s boat. Please help !!! Steve Mickel has graciously volunteered to be master chef and organizer of the food for the August 26 family picnic. We are in need of a volunteer or volunteers to organize the fun fly. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer some of your time and talent. This is our year to host members of the Keystone Club. It looks like we are going to have one of thoseblistering summers, with many changing weatherpatterns. These often, hot, wet, and windy dayshave definitely dampened many of our flyingdays, and activities. It seems as though HighWing Tuesdays, and Pattern Day, as well as ourThursday Training activites have been curtailedby the inclement weather. Hopefully, thesepatterns will soon come to an end!

Unfortunately, we did have a few planes meettheir demise, and were sent to their final restingplace; me with losing my Clipped Wing GoldbergCub; Greg and Rene had accidents of which I'mnot sure about the condition of their planes. Iwas able to salvage my Cub wing, and some ofthe tail section. I cleaned, and replaced the carbon the HB61PDP motor that was in the Cub, andhave test run it. It is fine, and ready to bemounted in another plane.

It was a pleasure to see Bill Cecchetti fly the 1/3

scale Spacewaker, and it is a beautiful flyer. BillJohns has a new wing on his Hobbico Hobbystar

60 Mark III, and is flying it again. Lester Farouxbrought his Toledo Special out, and it is a great

flyer, and pretty in the air. I finally managed tofinish upgrading my old Piper Vagabond, withnewer radio equipment, and rebuilt the old

HB61PDP motor. It still has the 30 yr oldMonokote on it, and still flies great. I'll befinishing up my "really" old scratch built Cub,with updated radio, and rebuilt motor. I'll postpics, hopefully next month.

If you are building, or refurbishing an old plane, let us know, send a few pics, and we would loveto publish them in our newsletter.

by Denny PollockThis is the first installment of plane projects to show how many parts can easily be fabricated & some

techniques I use to manipulate metal. My brother, Dean, needed some xtra landing gear assemblies for several of his larger planes. He asked

me if I had any "Stop" sign aluminum at my shop & I told him I had (2). He asked me if I would fabricate acouple of landing gear assemblies with the "Stop" sign aluminum as it is tempered & has a very nice "flex"characteristic that acts like a shock absorber as it will return to original shape if flexed a bit. He hadanother gear assembly we made a while back to make sure the dimensions were the same & had theoriginal template to reuse.

After scribing the template to the aluminum, I quickly plasma cut the (2) gear assemblies with ease.'Bro then marked each piece for the bends & helped me with the hydraulic press positioning to insureaccuracy. After a couple "tweaks", they were perfect. I was going to glass bead the (2) pieces so he couldprime & paint, albeit, I was out of media......an earned "duuuhhhhh"! Anyway, Deano said he could stripthem at home & finish them. I'm sure he will post pics of the finished units when completed.

I hope these plane projects will provide ideas, methods, & help you all with something you may needfabricated.Denny Pollock
