Ten things you should know about GameCity.

Page 2: 10thingsaboutgamecity

1. GameCity is what a videogame festival should be.

We bring together developers, students and the public to explore and celebrate videogames and videogame culture.

We attract the best speakers in the World, give a platform to up-and-coming artists and create totally unique public events.

Sonic’s Birthday Tea Party, 2006

7. Because weʼre unique, we get great media coverage...

As well as creating entry points to videogames for the widest possible section of the public, we give the media another way in too.

7b. ...and folks say nice things about us.

GameCity looks poised to become our industryʼs first Sundance. A truly unique approach for hosting a game festival that seems long overdue.

Lorne Lanning, Oddworld Inhabitants

GameCity goes from strength to strength, having established itself as a world-leading example of innovation and outreach. It was a privilege and pleasure to be able to engage with players of all ages in the magnificent setting of the council hall.

Jonathan Smith,TTGames

GameCity is unique. For a creative industry, video gaming suffers from an arid calendar. Music and movies have a more obvious public dimension, certainly, but thatʼs no reason for games to stay in the closet. GameCity offers new ways to look at games, and for gamers to be seen looking in, too.

Any games festival that can reunite industry legends, lead to a Japanese game developer designing a playground, and evoke religious sentiments in a shopping centre is doing something very right for sure.
