ACTIONS

This is a catalog of all the actions available to you on the Adobe® Illustrator®

8.0 CD-ROM. For instructions on how to load these and other action sets to

the Actions palette, please refer to the User Guide or on-line Help.

Action names that contain “(selection)” need to be run after you have made a

selection. Action names that contain “(stroke)” need to be run after you have

selected a stroke or path. These work best on open ended or ellipse paths.

Action names that contain “(type)” need to be run after you have created type,

and then selected it with the selection tool. All the actions, except the

Commands set, will put the results of the action on a new layer that has the

same name as the action, so not to effect your original document. In cases

where a selection is made before running the action, that selection is copied

to the new layer, so you might need to turn off the original layer to see the full

effect of the action.

These actions can be used as is or customized. The easiest way to customize

an action is to expand it in the palette and turn on any dialogs by clicking in

the square to the right of the check mark in the palette. While playing the

action it will now stop at those dialogs, allowing you to put in different

amount. The steps in an action that involve a dialog can also be changed by

just double-clicking on that step. For certain dialogs you will first have to have

a selection - for example any Photoshop filter will need a rasterized selection

before that dialog will open. To change the selected color of an action you can

either delete the existing “Set color” step and record the color you like, or turn

off the “Set color” step and insert a stop (found in the palette pop up menu),

which will stop the action playing, allow you to select your color and then

continue playing the action.
