November Minutes By Marge Bu:erfield

There was a huge turnout for our first pancake breakfast of the season on November 17th

at the Taylor Avia-

%on Center. Despite not feeling well, Donald Taylor set up and decorated the mee%ng room, with the help

of Earl Taylor and Shirley Fitzgerald, and it looked great. John and Marge Bu&erfield were the cooks for

the day, along with Earl Taylor, who of course was busy throughout the morning keeping up with the de-

mand for scrambled eggs. Lisa Ludemann and Shirley Fitzgerald performed the big and important job of

cleaning up. It was George Coy’s birthday on the 17th

, so Shirley Fitzgerald brought a cake so that we could

all help George celebrate. The mee%ng was called to order at 10:00 by President, John Fitzgerald. Follow-

ing are the minutes of the mee%ng:

Thanks were extended to Donald Taylor, Earl Taylor and Shirley Fitzgerald for seAng up for the pancake

November Mee.ng Minutes (Con.nued)

Peter Geiss and Miguel Marin volunteered to cook for the upcoming December 17th

pancake breakfast.

John Fitzgerald would like to order name badges for any members who did not receive one last year. Contact John Fitzger-

ald or Marge Bu&erfield to let them know you’d like one.

Thanks were extended to Newsle:er Editor, John Bu&erfield, for the great newsle:er he puts out each month. Way to go

John!

The Secretary’s Minutes were accepted as set forth in the April newsle:er.

It was decided that officer’s terms would be for a period of two years instead of one as it has been in the past. Elec%ons

were held and John Fitzgerald was re-elected as President, Miguel Marin was re-elected as Vice President and Marge

Bu&erfield was re-elected as Secretary. George Coy was elected to be the new Treasurer. Thanks were expressed to out-

going Treasurer, Bryan Bourgeois, for his many years of dedicated service in this job.

Young Eagles Coordinator, Miguel Marin, announced that we flew 113 Young Eagles this year. He reminded pilots that if

you don’t fly ten Young Eagles during each year, our Chapter does not get the chits. ($5.00 for each Young Eagle ride). He

also menoned the importance of every pilot flying Young Eagles to make sure they go online to do the background

check. This is very quick and easy to do. The background check is good for three years.

John Fitzgerald announced that following the mee%ng, there would be a small remembrance service for members, Harry

Yawney and Bob Domingue.

John Fitzgerald and Miguel Marin flew out to Oshkosh in October to a:end a 1 ½ day leadership mee%ng and came away

with a lot of insight. They found that we do a lot of things right and got some ideas for what we could do be:er.

Our youngest member, Alexandra Diehl, gave a short presenta%on on how much she enjoyed a:ending the EAA Advanced

Camp this summer. She thanked the Chapter for sponsoring her. She had a great instructor in Bob Desmarais as she was

the only one out to 200 -300 kids who didn’t crash the plane on the 747 simulator. (Congratula%ons Alex!!) Besides class-

room work, she also a:ended workshops of welding, composites, sheet metal, to name a few. She had a great week there.

John Fitzgerald announced that last year there were only 8 slots for girls and in 2018 there will be 20. It is hoped more girls

and young women will enter into an avia%on career.

Vice President, Miguel Marin, announced that our chapter would like to form VMC and IMC clubs and this idea went over

very well with the members present. This would be something we could do during the winter months. There could be films

to watch and have discussions about it. Bob Desmarais announced that he could spread the word to those at BTV. Miguel

hopes to get the VMC club started by next month.

Donald Taylor announced that he painted the fire escape and it took him five days to do it. Bryan Bourgeois donated five

gallons of sealer. Thanks Donald and Bryan! The steps look great.

John Fitzgerald announced that business mee%ngs will now be separate from the breakfast, to keep it fun for all members.

It was suggested that the business mee%ng would be at a separate place wherever convenient and open to all members.

John Fitzgerald also announced the importance of having a Board of Directors and having a couple of directors coming to

the mee%ngs to give input and vote. John also said that he has sample bylaws we can look at to see if there are any changes

we’d like to make.

Donald Taylor announced that he would like to have all EAA Chapter 613 stuff removed from his hangar.

The 50/50 raffle was won by Herman Pretorius. Congratula%ons Herman on winning $28.00!!

Chapter 613 is Organizing VMC and IMC Clubs by John Fitzgerald

In concert with EAA, Chapter 613 is forming two new clubs. The first club is the VMC Club. Through this club

you can gain insight into how to handle real-life flying scenarios. The objec%ve is to engage with non-

instrument rated pilots of all experience levels, share knowledge and experience, support educa%on and

safety, and par%cipate in fellow pilot assessments of your knowledge.

The second club is the EAA IMC Club. Though the network of worldwide EAA Chapters, the IMC Club focuses

on building proficiency in instrument flying.

Our first mee%ng of the VMC Club will be scheduled in January. The IMC Club mee%ng will be held in Febru-

ary. We will have more details and %mes by the next breakfast. If you have any ques%ons please give Miguel

Marin or Bob Desmarais a call. I will post as I know more. John FitzGerald 802-249-1775 or [email protected]
