William Collins died 1890 and son Marcus Edward, a woollen manufacturer was named as ratepayer in 1894 [nearest rates for Virginia St available after 1891]. Marcus had married Helen Ramage in 1888 but both she and their infant daughter died in 1894 leaving two other young children.Marcus may have remained in the family home during his marriage or returned there that year.Maria and William had thirteen children from 1855 to 1874.Maria is buried with seven other family members including their three children who died young.

It is possible that M Collins may be a sister or sister-in-law of Marcus. The most likely sisters would be Marion Lilla Collins 1866 - 1961 marr Clerke 1896Mabel Amelia Collins 1870 - 1956 unmarr.

Marcus served as a councillor and was twice Mayor of Newtown and Chilwell.Page 116 of Model Borough [Seaton, Gladys] refers to his gift of Moorak Park to the residents of Newtown. The memorial fountain there was erected as a tribute to him and to the Collins family whose woollen mill was in the municipality.

Janet had a younger sister Mary who married James SHARPE born Fyansford and their children were all born Geelong area. Their mother Janet died Geelong 1876 so it is possible the family had moved there prior to that. Her father died 1897. Janet had one daughter Leila born Terang 1887 and her husband was also from Terang. Janet may have lived or been visiting in Geelong at the time of the petition but also died there four years later.
