“And Moses said, ‘Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets!

Would that the Lord might bestow his spirit on them all!’ ...‘There is no one who performs a mighty

deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. Anyone who gives you a cup of water to

drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, surely will not lose his reward.’”

On the day of my baptism I was anointed and told that I share with Jesus in His role as ‘priest, prophet

and king.’ A prophet is one who speaks for the Lord.

God chose the seventy two in the book of numbers, Jesus chose His twelve apostles and disciples, and

today we are blessed with the same role.

We are able to speak by our deeds, preaching by our actions. When Jesus told St. Francis to rebuild His

church, He entrusted the mission of bringing the lived gospel to others. Our role today is no different. We

pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, but we also pray that we and all may accept

their/our role as prophets for the Lord. Someone is waiting to receive your cup of water.
