Began with Saint Joseph’s in Clinton Corners in 1883

Was a mission of Regina Coeli in Hyde Park

1889 became a mission of Immaculate Conception in Amenia.

1890 became a misison of the new church; Saint Joseph’s in Millbrook.

Was originally “Hoffman Hall”, located next to the Stanford Baptist Community, which was near Cold Spring Road and the Wappinger’s Creek.

Moved to its current location at some time before 1897, when it was purchased by Saint Joseph’s in Millbrook.

It was renovated, and dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.

1918: 3 sisters moved into the farmhouse on Sister’s Hill Road to start a “new foundation”.

An important part of the sisters’ horarium was daily mass. April 26, 1919: Father Robert A. Ross at Saint Joseph’s in

Millbrook received a letter saying:“At the direction of the Diocesan Board of Consulters, I am writing to notify you that you are hereby appointed, by His Grace, the Most Reverend Archbishop, as the Administrator of the new parish to be established at Bangall”

The letter came from Archbishop Patrick Hayes, and established Saint Joseph’s in Clinton Corners as a mission church of the new parish of Immaculate Conception.

Father Ross moved into what is now the rectory, which was thought to originally be a farmhouse. The building behind it (Saint Mary’s Hall) was thought to be one of the old farm buildings.

1919:

Father Ross has the Diocesan Mission Band come and preach a Mission in both churches.

He enlisted the Sisters of Charity to provide religious education for the children in the area.

First communions were celebrated in Bangall, and Confirmation at Saint Joseph’s in Millbrook.

1920:

Parishioners with picks and shovels gathered to install a heating system in the basement.

Protestant neighbors were so impressed with their hard

1924: Father Ross passed away, on Christmas day.

A report at this time stated that there were 169 resident parishioners and an average of 100 summer boarders.

Father Ross was replaced by Father Cornelius Norris shortly after New Year’s.

Daily mass was established by Father Norris, but it occurred in the Sisters’ chapel.

The congregation’s numbers continued to grow over the next forty years that Father Norris was the pastor.

In 1947, Immaculate Conception became a church of its own; no longer belonging to Saint Joseph’s in Millbrook.

Monsignor John Shevlin was pastor from 1986-1996

He established a 25 member Parish Council

The church received a new roof

CCD classes got so large that they were held in the town hall.

Many church events occurred during this time, including: chicken BBQ’s, dinner dances, square and line dances, and a festival to honor the Assumption of Mary on August 15th.

Father Richard O’Gorman came to Bangall as pastor in 1996.

He eliminated the CCD program, feeling that parents should play a larger role in the religious education of their children, which caused many parishioners to seek religious education at other parishes.

He also disbanded the parish council, and instead formed the Stewardship team, which all members of the congregation could be a part of.

Father Anthony Oppong Asamoah, a graduate student at the time, took up residence in the parish in 2001.

Father O’Gorman and Father Anthony left around 2003, and Father William White in Pine Plains became the administrator of Immaculate Conception, with Father John Bida in residence.

On December 14, 2013, the parish received word that the church building was structurally unsound and could henceforth no longer be used for worship.

On Saturday, December 21st, Saint Mary’s Hall was converted into a proper worship space, and the first mass was celebrated there on that same day, at 5:00 PM. The last mass celebrated in the temporary worship space created there was July 26th 2015 at 10:30 AM.

CCD continued until 2014, when decreasing numbers made it unnecessary to have a program separate from those of Millbrook and Pine Plains.
