Campers Return Last Friday 35 weary and exhausted Year 6 students returned from an amazing 5 days at Narrabeen Lakes Sport and Recreation camp. In fabulous weather, the students enjoyed a visit to Palm Beach where they caught a glimpse of a number of “Summer Bay” residents, sailing, high ropes, rock climbing, archery, canoeing and a bush walk followed by a cookout.

The following student comments say it all!

It was really fun. I did things I never thought I could do!..... Sharn Edwards

Camp was fun because we got to meet new people and do lots of activities with our friends. The food was great and my favourite activity was sailing. But the best part of camp was we got to do all the fun activities with our friends…. Emily Watt

I really enjoyed camp. My favourite activities were the night activities. We did so many different activities I couldn’t

choose the best one…… Jess Eddy

Year 6 camp was really fun. My personal favourite was the high ropes. At first I was scared of how high I was but I got used to it….. Oscar Rose

My favourite was sailing as Tom, Patrick, Nick, Efraim and myself would keep tipping until we capsized….Griffyn Bachta

Annika Picker negotiating the high ropes.

Tyrell Brown scaling lofty heights during rock climbing.

Mackenzie King, Michala Locke, Jasmine Hartwell and

Sophie Palmer preparing to set sail.

Ben Flood riding the flying fox.

Sharn Edwards mastering archery.

Oscar Rose and Efraim Topalidis take refuge in the shallows

during a canoeing expedition.

Enrolling Now For 2015 ~ Reminder If you know of families who are in the process of enrolling children at Crookwell Public in 2015 please encourage them to return their Application For Enrolment Forms to school promptly. This will allow staffing arrangements to be firmly in place for the commencement of the 2015 academic year.

Families new to the school community who are considering enrolling students at the school are invited to contact the school on 48321213 to arrange an interview with Mr Atfield, meet the staff, tour the school and receive a Crookwell Public School Information package.

Thank you to the families who have already completed and submitted their child’s application to enrol. Student Supervision As teachers are not legally required to be on duty before 8.45am of a morning; teachers are not rostered to supervise students who arrive at school early. Please do not send your children to school before 8.45am to help safeguard your child’s safety.

Thank you in anticipation Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Australians throw away 3.3 million tonnes of food every year – up to a quarter of the country's food supplies - mainly because we purchase too much. Consider planning your meals and only buy what you need. Reduce packaging in your child’s lunchbox and use re-usable containers rather than plastic wrap where possible. It also leaves our school grounds much cleaner! Years 5 & 6 Excursion The Term 4 excursion for our senior students has been organised with an exciting day in Canberra planned. Students will be participating in a teacher guided tour of the National Museum of Australia during the morning. This will be followed by a picnic lunch. During the afternoon students will be visiting the War Memorial participating in a teacher guided tour. This excursion will support the units of work that the students are studying in History.

Flying Start Celebrations! A superb time was had by all the children on their final day of Flying Start. After looking at past photos from our two terms at Flying Start, we drew pictures of what we like best about school. We then ventured outside into the glorious sunshine to celebrate with a party picnic, chalk drawing and, of course, some fun on the play equipment!

Congratulations to all the children on their Flying Start Success. I look forward to seeing all of your happy faces again at Orientation Week next term (Week 6, 10th-14th November).

Miss Logan

Reece Allport gladly accepts his award of

excellence from Mr Atfied.

Mrs Gay, Cooper Tetley and Thomas Cole enjoy each

other’s company at the picnic party.

Flying Start children get ready to celebrate

with a party picnic in the sunshine.

Reagan Willis and Emily Simpson cannot

decide which treat to try first.

Flying Start friends: Alyssa Huang and Phoebe Selmes.

Charlotte Arentsen, Reagan Willis and Montana Allwright

Social Theme~ ‘Sporting Idol’ A social was held in the school hall on Monday night for the students in Years 2 to 6. The ‘sporting idol’ social theme was decided upon by the student forum and proved very popular with the students, nearly all of whom came dressed to fit the theme.

This fabulous night was a great way to celebrate another tremendous term. I thank all the staff who gave freely of their time to organise and run the event and congratulate all students who attended on the exemplary behaviour they displayed throughout the evening.

Carley Tebecis and Alexandria Woods left their horses in the

playground while they popped in to the hall to dance.

Beware of Hannah Shipton, Samantha Stosur!

Levi Woods, Matthew McAlister, Sean Ward and Jackson

Kelleher embraced the social theme when they arrived dressed as their sporting idol.

Oliver Gray and Imogen Roberts worked as a team to keep

their feet on the paper and not on the hall floor.

Zakaia Lewis would put fear into any opponent

on the Rugby field.

Will Chanel Allwright ride a Melbourne Cup

winner one day?

Book Busking in 2014 Classes from Crookwell Public School went ‘Book Busking’ in the Crookwell main street area during the week to demonstrate the importance the school places on reading. Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 read to passing shoppers, family members and friends, many of whom stopped for a while to listen and make a monetary donation before continuing on their way. The ‘busking’ money has now been counted and an amazing $1583.10 was raised to help purchase additional resources for the library.

Congratulations students on this brilliant ‘book busking’ effort and thank you to the Crookwell community for the encouragement and generous support you offered the students.

Lachlan Tetley, Eve Roberts, Jesse Faulkner, Levi Woods

and Sebastian Potts were a very entertaining group of ‘book buskers’.

Annika Picker and Emma Robertson enjoyed their

Book Busking experience.

Georgie Lloyd, Lillyan Potts and Myles Kearney

patiently wait their turn to ‘book busk’.

Jay Knight ‘book busks’ under the watchful eye of his

Peer Support Leader Griffyn Bachta.

Sophie Palmer takes her turn in front of the

Commonwealth Bank to ‘book busk’ for her group.

Vaughan Bickley and Zakaia Lewis listen as

Katie Simpson ‘book busks’.

Jacob Waters with his busking book, Hello, Bingo!

What a wonderful assembly that all the students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 put on today.

Your retake of the famous story of Wombat Stew is one to be remembered. The smiles on your faces said it all. You

wowed the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles with your enthusiasm and your performance was highly

entertaining to the audience that filled our hall.

Dingo (Lachlann Tetley) was very happy to have hold of

Wombat (Saxon Long) for his stew.

Congratulations to all the students in K, 1, 2

The Koalas (Joseph Anderson LHS and Makayla Cole RHS)

convinced Dingo ( Lachlann Tetley) to add gumnuts to his stew

Selective Schools Are you already thinking about your child’s Year 7 placement in a selective school in 2016? Selective high schools are government high schools that cater for highly-achieving, academically talented students by offering an educationally enriched environment. Application for entry to a selective high school in Year 7 in 2016 will be online only, from 14 October, 2014. You’ll find more information about selective schools and dates for examinations here: http://bit.ly/selectiveHS

Mobile Maths Games Channel your child’s interest in playing mobile apps into a chance to improve their maths skills and recall. The free School A to Z app has a Maths Monkey game to help test times tables and the follow-up app, Maths Monkey’s Quest ($1.99), challenges kids from Yr 2 to Yr 8 with addition, subtraction, ratios and percentages. Both apps are created by the NSW Department of Education and are available for Apple iPhones and iPads, and Android phones and tablets. You’ll find links to both here: http://bit.ly/oSREYV Lost Property Concerns The hooks outside classrooms and the lost property baskets in sick bay are overflowing with school uniform items, much of it unnamed, that no-one seems to own. If a member of your family has misplaced an item of uniform could you please join us in encouraging your child to have a thorough look through the lost property baskets and on the hooks outside classrooms in our endeavour to unite uniforms with their owners? N. B. After Week 3 of next term all unclaimed, unnamed items of uniform will need to be removed. On behalf of the school staff I thank you for your help and support throughout the term. It has been a particularly busy term with many group and individual successes to celebrate.

Have a happy holiday, enjoying the break from routines and capitalising on the opportunity to grab some time to do something special with your children. Make the most of the moment!

I look forward to working with you all again next term as we quickly move towards Christmas. Yours in Public Education,

Greg Atfield

Principal
