CORONA DE ADVIENTO CORONA: Su origen. Existen pruebas de que los pueblos germanos precris- tianos utilizaban coronas con velas encendidas durante los fríos y oscuros días de diciembre como signo de esperanza para un futuro con días más cálidos y la extensión de luz del sol de primavera. SYMBOLOS: El laurel significa la victoria sobre la persecución y el sufrimiento, el pino, el acebo y el tejo significan la inmortalidad y el cedro la fuerza y la curación. El círculo de la corona que no tiene principio ni fin, simboliza la eternidad de Dios. La inmortalidad del alma y la vida eterna se encuentra en Cristo. En conjunto, la guirnalda de árboles de hoja perenne representa la inmortalidad de nuestras almas y la vida nueva y eterna prometida a nosotros por medio de Cristo, Verbo eterno. LAS CUATRO VELAS: Representan las cuatro semanas de Adviento. Las mo- radas simbolizan las oraciones y las penitencias realizadas en este momento. La rosa se enciende en el tercer domingo, día de regocijo porque los fieles han llegado a la mitad del Adviento y ya están cerca de la Navidad. La iluminación progresiva de las velas simboliza la esperanza de la primera venida al mundo de nuestro Señor y su segunda venida a juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos. La luz representa a Cristo, Luz del mundo. Una vela blanca colocada en el centro de la corona, representa a Cristo y se enciende el día de Nochebuena. There is evidence of pre-Christian Germanic peoples using wreathes with lit candles during the cold and dark December days as a sign of hope in the future warm and extended-sunlight days of Spring. SYMBOLS: The laurel signifies victory over persecution and suffering; pine, holly and yew, immortality; and cedar, strength and healing. The circle of the wreath, which has no beginning or end, symbolizes the eternity of God, the immortality of the soul, and the everlasting life found in Christ. Alto- gether, the wreath of evergreens depicts the immortality of our soul and the new, everlasting life promised to us through Christ, the eternal Word. FOUR CANDLES: represent the four weeks of Advent. The purple ones symbolize the prayer, penance, sacrifices and goods works undertaken at this time. The rose candle is lit on the third Sunday, day of rejoicing, since the faithful have reached at the midpoint of Advent and they are close to Christmas. The progressive lighting of the candles symbolizes expectation our Lord’s first coming into the world and His second coming to judge the living and the dead. The light signifies Christ, the Light of the world. A white candle placed in the middle of the wreath, represents Christ and is lit on Christmas Eve.
