MARY’S MAGNIFICAT My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has ϔilled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever. • Today, we celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord. In our first reading the Prophet Isaiah foretells the victory of the Servant he will send who “shall bring justice, open the eyes of the blind, freeing captives and establishing a Covenant between God and His people.” That servant is Jesus Christ. In our second reading Saint Peter explains; “In truth, I see that God shows no partiality but rather whoever fears Him and acts upright, is acceptable to Him.” Baptism is a Sacrament that enters you into Christ, bestowing on you the gift of the Holy Spirit, who guides you along your earthly journey until you are back in the arms of Christ. Last week we celebrated the Epiphany and the gift of Eternal Life being offered to all humanity, from the incarnation. Today we learn how to accept and receive this gift by being baptized. In today’s Gospel we hear that Jesus, although sinless, allows Himself to be baptized by John the Baptist. His baptism serves all generations as an example of the importance of baptism and the reception of the Holy Spirit. Mark’s Gospel tells us that Jesus comes up from the water and the Heavens open sending the Spirit, like a Dove, to descend upon Him. Then God’s voice exclaims; “YOU ARE MY BELOVED SON, WITH WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED.” IS OUR LORD WELL PLEASED WITH YOU? A NEW YEAR IS A GOOD TIME TO LOOK AT YOUR OWN GOD RELATIONSHIP, THEN………TWEAK IT!!!!!!!!!! Would you like to become Catholic or complete your Sacraments? Please call Carol Mangani at 973-283-2218.

Consider making your weekly contributions to OLM charitable donations through a QCD - Qualified Charitable Distribution. These contributions can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year. A QCD excludes the amount donated from taxable income, which is unlike regular withdrawals from an IRA. Call George in the Parish office for more information.

This is being proposed in our State's legislature. The Bill is titled s-3030/a-4848 here are some bullet points of the proposed Bill: 1. Allows late term abortions up to birth of the child 2. The bill includes language that a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus shall not have independent rights under the laws of the state of New Jersey. 3. This is supported by Gov. Murphy! Who claims to have Catholic roots) 4. The bill permits non-physicians to perform abortions. 5. It nullifies conscience clauses for medical personnel who are opposed to abortion 6. It mandates an annual allocation of taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood under the Title X in the State budget.

Exempts prosecution of individuals who terminate or attempt to terminate their pregnancy. Requires all

insurance providers to cover abortions and contraceptives. 7. Young women who are minors can procure an abortion without their parents knowledge, or permission and forces us to pay for it. LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD AGAINST THIS BILL! Contact your legislators for our district by e-mail addresses or call their office.

graders had a wonderful virtual retreat with their sponsors. They spent time getting to know each other on a more spiritual level and building a stronger relationship with Jesus. Please continue to pray for them as they move closer to receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.

Our catechists met virtually this week. We prayed and shared our gratitude for these amazing people who give so much of themselves as they bring their love of the Lord and share their faith with our students. Catechists shared tips and tricks for working in the virtual environment and being more effective teachers of the faith.

A Happy and Healthy New Year to all our Parishioners& their Families!

May the peace of the Baby Jesus at Christmas stay with you throughout the coming year.

First Reading: Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7 Isaiah tells of the Lord’s Servant, who will be inconspicuous, but will not rest until justice is established. The Lord then tells his servant that he was formed to be “a light for the nations.”

Second Reading: Acts 10:34-38 Peter speaks to a group of pagans for the first time. He explains to them that any person who follows God’s will is acceptable to God, regardless of nationality.

Gospel: Mark 1:7-11 John the Baptist had claimed one would come far more powerful than himself, one who would baptize with the Holy Spirit rather than water. When Jesus came to John and was baptized, the Spirit descended on him and a voice said, “You are my beloved Son. On you my favor rests.”
