God’s Acre Sale Needs Buckets! The St. James the Less Altar and Rosary need ice cream buckets for

this years God’s Acre Sale. To help cut down on costs, they’re asking that after you enjoy all that delicious ice cream if you could bring in the buckets and place them in the back of church so that they could reuse them for turkey at the sale. What better way to recycle!

If your son/daughter/grandson/granddaughter is currently in Grades

8 - 11 and might be interested in attending NCYC this Fall we can still take registrations for a bit longer! Please contact Fr. Bruce for more information.

Anointing Mass An Anointing Mass will be held Tuesday, May 21st at 9:00 am at St. Mary's in West Point. All in need of heal-ing, or 60 years of age or older, are encouraged to attend. Like all the sacraments, the Holy Anointing was insti-tuted by Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry. The Cate-

chism explains, “This sacred anointing of the sick was instituted by Christ our Lord as a true and proper sacrament of the New Testa-ment. It is alluded to indeed by Mark, but is recommended to the faithful and promulgated by James the apostle and brother of the Lord” (Mark 6:13, Jas. 5:14-15). The anointing of the sick conveys several graces and imparts gifts of strengthening in the Holy Spirit against anxiety, discouragement, and temptation and conveys peace and fortitude (CCC 1520).

Prayer to the

Mother of the Lord for all Mothers

Mary, on this day when we honor all Mothers, we turn to you. We thank the Lord whom you serve for the great gift of motherhood. Never has it been known that anyone who sought your intercession was left unaided by grace. Dear Mother, thank you for your “Yes” to the invita-tion of the angel which brought heaven to earth and changed human history. You opened your-self to God’s word and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

Dear Mother, intercede for all of our Mothers. Ask your Divine Son to give them the grace of surrendered love so that they could join with you in giving their own “Fiat.” May they find daily strength to say yes to the call to the sacrificial love, the very heart of the vocation of mother-hood. May their love and witness be a source of great inspiration for all of us called to follow your Son.

On this Mothers Day, Mother of the Word Incarnate, pray for us who have recourse to thee. Amen.

FYI Just a heads up that HTC’s Baccalaureate Mass will be next Sunday at St. John the Baptist. Fr. Dennis, Fr. Joseph and Fr. Bruce met and deter-mined that because of Fr. Mark’s health, at the end of May, we will be discontinuing the 5:30 p.m. Sunday Mass. Fr. Joseph has already modified their daily Mass schedule, and we decided not hav-ing a Sunday Night Mass would help the situation.

Wedding Banns Brittany Wellman and Travis Whitmore who will be married on June 1st at St. John’s.

Mikaela Foecke and Issac Richter Who will be married June 1st at St. James.

I learned recently that the first hospitals were founded by the church. Why? What other things have their origin in the church?

Many social institutions have their origin in early church life. Meeting the needs of people was the most basic expression of faith. Not only did God make people in his own image and likeness, but Jesus had given the command of love: "whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me" (Mt 25:40). The apostles had ap-pointed the first deacons to look after the needs of the poor widows. It wasn't long afterwards that hospices, hospitals, soup kitchens, and orphanages appeared. Universities came later, based on monastery and cathedral schools that had been ordered to provide education to young boys by Charlemagne. As the needs of society became more complex, the church would

champion the needs of the poor, the oppressed, the sick, and the needy. All of this was done out of respect for the dignity of each per-son and the need to prepare them to hear and embrace the Gospel. Organizing social institutions made for a more efficient use of re-sources, and a more visible sign of the ongoing work of the church in preaching and teaching the Gospel. In social services, education, lan-guage, and law, the church has left its imprint.

A big thanks to those who helped clean up the church grounds at St. John’s: Sally Denning, Randy Marrow, Herold and Joan Holt-kamp, Dan and Kay Wesely, Raymond and Marlene Bentler & Ruth Lampe. Your help is greatly appreciated and admired by every-one. Sharon Waldon

Stewardship

4th Sunday of Easter, May 12th, 2019 3

The SUNDAY COLLECTION is by far our most important source of income. Just as we are called to make Sunday an important part of our

week, we are also called to be good stewards of our financial gifts. The

bills still come in over the Winter. Please be regular in your giving!

"To live charitably means not looking out for our own interests, but carrying the burdens of the weakest and poorest

among us."

~Pope Frances

AREA WEEKEND MASS SCHEDULES

Ms. Schumaker has started a wonderful tradition at the Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School. Each Monday morning all of the students gather in the hallway have a morning prayer and sing a song to praise God. They also recognize students who have a birthday that week with a hearty chorus of the "Happy Birthday" song. After prayers are said and songs are sung, the students then recite the following poem:

“Some kids are smarter than you. Some kids have cooler clothes than you. Some kids are better at sports than you.

It doesn’t matter. You have your thing, too.

Be the kid who can get along. Be the kid who is generous.

Be the kid who is happy for other people. Be the kid who does the right thing.

Be the nice kid.”

Our students are truly blessed to learn that being nice is so important and this is part of putting our faith in action. This is all part of educating physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Pictured are our the young people from our parishes who received their first Holy Commun-ion on May 5, 2019: (L to R) Parker Overberg, Harper Wesely, Kaylee Moeller, Fr. Bruce, Brayton Van Niewaal, Annamae Timpe, Jamie Pollmeier, Nicholas Menke.

The First Communicants and their parents gratefully acknowledge and appreciate the love, devotion and commitment that Erin Garmoe, Nicole Herdrich, Jessica Moore, Emily Neeley, and Karen Schumaker, gave in preparing them for this sacrament...and of course our fearless leader Dixie Booten.
