The need to create original content

After the Panda and Penguin update and another update called Hummingbird, it was all about the need to create original content.

Google is trying to identify who are the industry experts in different segments.

Google scores original content highly .

It needs to be created and distributed throughout authoritative sites on the internet

These are sites that Google uses as signals to say “These are quality places for that content to be shown.”

● The hub is the original content that you create● The spokes are the authoritative sites that Google recognizes on which the content is found● In the case of us doing this interview - a YouTube video placing, it on YouTube is a signal that

Google values because they own it. ● If you re-purpose some of that content and add supporting slides and activities, you could put it

on SlideShare. ● If you translate the actual audio that is created into a white paper PDF that could be put it on

either LinkedIn or a blog on your own website. ● And if you take just the audio portion of the activities, you can put it on iTunes.● So you’ve got iTunes, LinkedIn, SlideShare, and YouTube - ● You can even chop it up and dribble bits of on Twitter.

All of these sites that consider authoritative by Google and they impact the signal.

Will Google penalize if the same content is copied everywhere?

● Not when the content is physically re-purposed. ● An audio on iTunes with a video on YouTube from the same source material will be recognized

by Google ● Google will give credit back to the author’s site ● Google is good at recognizing the original author of content. It is that clever.

People that rewrite somebody else’s content (even if they change 20-30% of it), Google will still identify that it is plagiarism and will not index it.

It IS possible to do SEO in a way that causes Google to penalize you!

● Beware the “silver bullet of SEO” which is whatever the new tool is that somebody’s marketing for $97 saying “it will do all this great stuff”. It is being watched by Google!

● Google actually watches the signals. They’ve got 200 signals● 10 to 20 of those are being modified every week. ● If google sees that a hundred back links showed up on your site yesterday, they’ll know that

was done by a machine, not a person.● There are applications that allow you to schedule and release data into social media – Twitter,

Facebook, and LinkedIn and that’s not overly penalized because again, Google will identify that it is all from the same author.
