Startup Routine

If the Kodak NexGlosser glossing unit window fails to dis-play within one minute, reboot the functional unit by performing a power cycle to the 30 AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER - B1103 located at the rear of the glossing unit.

To do this:

(16.) Move the 30 AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER - B1103 into the down position.

(17.) Wait several seconds to give the electronics time to react to the power cycle.

(18.) Move the 30 AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER - B1103 back into the up position.

(19.) Wait one minute. This gives the functional units time to connect for the first time with the software.

Startup Routine

20. Once the connection between the glossing unit and the Mini PC is established, the Kodak NexGlosser glossing unit main window should display, showing five tabs:

The glossing unit is now in the Sleeping mode and ready to accept jobs for glossing.

At the bottom left of the window, the access level of the current user is displayed. This indicates that the NexGlosser software has been successfully launched.

For information on how to use the Glosser software, please read the Kodak NexGlosser glossing unit User’s Guide in the Documentation Library.

If startup should fail

If the startup routine as described in this chapter fails, there can be a number of reasons for this. The following list shows problems which can occur sur-rounding this process. Please identify your problem in the list below and then click on the blue hyperlink to obtain information on what you should do:

0 Not all tabs display in the Glosser view (see page 2–9)

0 Main window of NexGlosser software fails to dis-play (see page 2–11)

2–8 Edition: April 3, 2007

Page 21: 2007_Nexglosser User Guide

Startup Routine

Not all tabs display in the Glosser view

Problem:

Under normal circumstances the following five tabs display across the top of the NexGlosser main window after startup: Glossing Unit, Service Software, Mainte-nance, Report Generator and NexPert OSS.

If not all of these tabs display after a reasonable amount of time, the NexGlosser software has not launched correctly.

What to do:

Reset the electronics of the glossing unit by perform-ing a power cycle to the CIRCUIT BREAKER - B1103:

This is done as follows:

1. Move the 30 AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER - B1103 into the down position.

2. Wait several seconds to give the electronics time to react to the power cycle.

glossing unit – Startup Guide 2–9

Page 22: 2007_Nexglosser User Guide

Startup Routine

3. Move the 30 AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER - B1103 back into the up position.

Note: This does not power down the Mini PC.

If the “power cycle” is unsuccessful, there may be a problem with the glossing unit or the Ethernet con-nections from the glossing unit to the Mini PC. You should then proceed as follows:

4. Close the Kodak NexGlosser glossing unit window by clicking the X in the top right corner of the window.

(5.) If the software for some reason fails to close, click the NexGlosser symbol in the taskbar at the bottom of your Windows® XP desktop:

A DOS shell window opens, displaying information (in English) which may help you to identify problems relating to the launch of the NexGlosser software. If this information does not help, close the DOS shell by clicking on the X in the top right corner.

6. Restart the NexGlosser software by repeating steps 10 to 15 in the procedure in the section Startup routine (see page 2–1).

7. If the problem persists, call Escalation.

Main window of NexGlosser software fails to display

Problem:

After the log in to the NexGlosser software, the NexGlosser software splashscreen displays as usual, but the NexGlosser software main window fails to appear.

What to do:

1. Please follow the reboot procedure as described in the section: Not all tabs display in the Glosser view (see page 2–9).
