To the illustrious Dr. George E. Cooper, 10th President of SC State University and First Lady DianeCooper, my fellow Student Government Association Executive officers and guests, it is my pleasure towelcome you to “ A Royal Renaissance: A Celebration of Movement.” This year’s coronation themewas chosen because I wanted to embrace the African American culture. After the great migration,African American’s wanted a new start. The African Americans during this time desired to expressthemselves through art, music, dance, and literature. The Harlem Renaissance gave birth to some ofthe greatest authors and musicians.

To my fellow Bulldogs, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for placing your trust in meas the spokeswoman for our beloved University. As your 72nd Miss South Carolina State University, Iam continuing the legacy of those queens who came before me and laying the foundation for thosewho will come after me. I continue to live by the verse, “God did not give me a spirit of fear but thepower of love and sound mind.” I hope to continue to be a role model for the young women of ouruniversity.

To my coronation committee, words can not express how much I appreciate all of you. Withoutyou, none of this would be possible. I do not think there is a great enough gift that I can give you thatwould truly show how grateful I am to have all of you in my life. You have taken my vision of theCotton Club and brought it to life.

To Ms. Adderson, Where do I begin? From the time I met you, I knew that you would be someoneI can count on. You work so hard for the students here at South Carolina State and you are truly anangel. You continue to put others before you, even when you are not feeling well. I know that when Ileave this institution, you will be the one that I continue to call on for motherly advice.

To all former queens, visiting queens, my royal court and coronation participates, thank you fortaking the time out of your busy schedules to celebrate this wonderful day with me. I have formedfriendships with all of you and I know that we will continue to grow together.

Finally and most importantly, to my family, all of you have been with me since birth. We have hadour ups and downs but you continue to support me no matter what. Mom, I love you. I rememberwhen I told you I wanted to run for Miss SC State, and you were so excited because this was somethingthat you wanted to do while you were in school but did not have the courage to go through with it. I amso happy that I had the opportunity to live out your dreams. Dad, even though you are out of thecountry (in Iraq), I know how proud you are of me. Zoel, my baby sister, I love you to pieces. I am sohappy that I have you for a sister and I pray to continue to be a role model in your life.

With Bulldog Pride and Honor,

Zuri StackhouseZuri StackhouseMiss South Carolina State University
