FIAT GROUP IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

TURNOVER IN 2009: £1.77bn €EXPORTS: £546mEMPLOYEES: 1387

Fiat has been represented in Britain since the turn of the 20th century. In 1903, just four years after the Company’s founding, Fiat Motors Ltd was established and by 1908 some 200 Fiat cars had been sold to London’s taxi drivers. The first London bus with pneumatic tyres to be licensed under the new Scotland Yard regulations was a Fiat, and in the 1920s Harrods was using some 40 Fiat delivery vans.

Today the Fiat Group is represented in the UK by the majority of the Group’s main activities, with a total turnover of £1.77bn and exports to the value of £546m in 2008.

Included in these figures are automobiles, the heart of the Group’s activities, through Fiat Group Automobiles UK and its seven brands.

The Group’s prestige automotive brands are represented through Ferrari North Europe Ltd and Maserati GB Ltd.

The Group has an equally important presence in the agricultural and tractors sector with CNH, as well as the commercial vehicle sector (Iveco), buses (Irisbus), industrial production equipment (COMAU Estil), and automotive motorsport component manufacturer Magneti Marelli Racing.

Fiat UK Limited, based in Central London, manages corporate communications, institutional and corporate relations, legal support and co-ordinates Group activities in Britain on behalf of Fiat SpA, the Group holding company of which Fiat UK is a subsidiary.

In addition, Fiat UK Services Division, based in Basildon, Essex, provides accounting, reporting, audit, payroll and taxation services to Group companies in Britain.

In total, the Fiat Group in the UK directly employs 1,387 people in a number of factories, training centres and head offices, which have contributed, for more than 100 years, to making the Fiat Group a significant force in the UK.

Fiat Group Automobiles UK Limited distributes the cars of Fiat (Panda, 500, 500C, Grande Punto, Punto Evo, Bravo, Sedici, Qubo, Multipla, Doblo), Fiat Professional (Grande Punto, Fiorino, Doblo, Scudo, Ducato), Alfa Romeo (MiTo,159, GT, Giulietta, Spider, Brera) and Abarth (Abarth Punto Evo, Abarth 500 and Abarth 500C), as well as replacement parts for all these vehicles.

Fiat has established itself as a world leader in the development of highly efficient, small cars that are perfectly in tune with the times. Indeed, both in 2007 and 2008 Fiat Automobiles was confirmed as having the lowest average value for CO2 emissions from vehicles sold in Europe (137.3 and 133.7 g/km respectively) based on figures published by JATO Dynamics, a world leader in automotive research and information.

Innovative engineering on several fronts underpins this achievement and includes MultiJet common rail diesel engine technology, Start&Stop engine cut-out systems, state-of-the-art turbo compressors combined with engine downsizing, and the introduction of Eco packages that include low rolling resistance tyres, low viscosity oils, aerodynamic packages and modified gearboxes.

MultiAir is Fiat’s latest engine technology and represents one of the single largest leaps forward for petrol engine design in recent times. Engines equipped with MultiAir technology are more powerful, more responsive across the entire engine speed range, use considerably less fuel, and reduce all types of exhaust emissions by a substantial amount. MultiAir engines are being introduced progressively across FGA products.

Driving style has an equally important part to play in boosting fuel economy and Fiat’s award-winning eco:Drive system can provide the driver with tips on how to save fuel. The innovative software, developed with Microsoft, uses the USB port from the versatile Blue&Me system to download data which can then be analysed on-line to pinpoint areas for improvement.

Fiat’s advanced engineering is complemented by a range of cars that matches everyday practicality with desirability and Italian flair. This is perhaps best epitomised by the 500, with its chic styling and class-leading safety technology, and recipient of the 2008 Car of the Year title. The 500 has provoked unprecedented interest among customers and has now been joined by the eagerly awaited convertible version, the 500C.

Alongside it, Fiat offers the Panda, a city car combining the road presence and elevated driving position of a small SUV and the space and flexible practicality of an MPV, the widely-acclaimed Punto Evo supermini, the largest car in its class, and, in the hotly contested medium hatchback sector, the stylish Bravo.

Successfully combining SUV off-road performance with the dynamic agility of a front-wheel drive hatchback, the Sedici is fitted with an on-demand 4x4 system.

The new Qubo is aimed at drivers who want family-friendly versatility, space and a car-like driving experience without sacrificing individuality and uses the Punto platform as a base.

The new Doblò offers families an affordable alternative to cramped saloons and hatchbacks, while providing all the practicality and versatility of a true MPV with class leading luggage space, low emissions and low fuel consumption.

Alfa Romeo cars have always offered a rewarding and exhilarating driving experience, establishing a passionate following among enthusiasts of the Italian marque. From the exclusive Alfa 8C Competizione to the new Alfa Giulietta, an Alfa Romeo will always be more than a way of getting from A to B, providing stylish design, outstanding performance and the handling characteristics appropriate to the pedigree of one of the world’s most famous sporting marques.

2010 has been an especially important year for Alfa Romeo as the marque celebrated its Centenary, and the launch of the all-new Alfa Giulietta. These two pivotal events were celebrated at the West Sussex based Goodwood Festival of Speed where Alfa Romeo was honoured as the featured marque, and the Giulietta was unveiled to the UK public.

Today Alfa Romeo UK has entered a new era, with a range of highly acclaimed sporting cars that feature revolutionary engine technology in the form of MultiAir, backed up by a strengthened dealer network that is more committed, better equipped and better-trained than ever before.

This product offensive is spearheaded by the all-new sporty hatchback Alfa Giulietta which joins its three-door compact counterpart, the Alfa MiTo in the quest for motoring excellence.

The current Alfa Romeo range also includes the highly distinctive Alfa 159 saloon and 159 Sportwagon, as well as the stunning Alfa Brera coupe, Alfa Spider convertible and Alfa GT coupe.

Completing the range, and inspiration to the design of both the Alfa Giulietta and Alfa MiTo, the Alfa 8C Competizione and 8C Spider are exclusive supercars for the 21st century whose styling echoes some of the sensuous Alfa Romeo coupés of the 50s and 60s. Each is limited to just 500 examples and can be seen on UK roads today.

Originally founded by Carlo Abarth in 1949, Abarth became extremely popular amongst motoring enthusiasts across Italy and in the UK. The brand is now back, synonymous with tough, spirited cars, enthusiastic challenges and a passion for thrills. Making its debut in the UK in July 2008, the first model to get the Abarth treatment was the Grande Punto which has now been replaced with the 165 bhp Abarth Punto Evo.

The second product to benefit from Abarth’s exceptional engineering work is Fiat’s iconic 500 and 500C models. Both Abarth Punto Evo and Abarth 500 versions can be further enhanced by the addition of esseesse upgrade kits. With racing very much at its heart, it was logical that Abarth should return to the circuits, and with the Trofeo Abarth 500 GB, Abarth once again has a winning formula.

FIAT PROFESSIONALThe Scudo van is another International Van of the Year winner, taking the title in 2008, and combining MPV practicality, car-like comfort, performance and handling.

By far the biggest-selling model in Fiat’s LCV range is the Ducato, over two million of which have been built since the launch of the original model in 1981.

The range is offered as light and heavy panel vans, light and heavy chassis cabs and trucks, as well as a range of passenger carrying Combis and minibuses. In the leisure conversions segment, the Ducato chassis cab is the dominant player in the motor-home market.

In line with the global strategic alliance between Fiat Group Automobiles SpA and Chrysler Group LLC created in 2009, the European integration of the two automotive groups’ distribution activities began in April 2010.

As part of this strategy, and the new role of FGA as distributor of Chrysler Group products and services in Europe, a new distribution organisation integrated into FGA’s organisational structure has been created in the UK. Thus, as from 01 September, Chrysler UK personnel, together with sales and service operations, have been transferred to FGA UK headquarters in Slough.

At the same time FGA Capital has taken over the financing services for Chrysler products in the UK, as well as replacing Daimler in performing services in support of sales operations, network development, purchasing, administration and information technology services.

The existing Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge UK dealer network is being maintained, thus guaranteeing continuity of customer service and assistance, and both the Chrysler and Jeep brands will be nurtured and expanded in the UK.

FGA Capital UK Limited works closely with FGA UK, Fiat Professional and Alfa Romeo UK ensuring that all passenger and commercial vehicles can be marketed with the most competitive funding packages.

The company is sub-divided into three key sectors: wholesale, business to business and retail. Each aims to ensure that Fiat Auto Financial Services is the first choice for dealerships, business and private customers in providing funding facilities to enable the purchase of Fiat brand vehicles. The company also works closely with the dealer network in relation to training and development needs, ensuring that all funding facilities are offered in an FSA-compliant manner.
