    Donaldson Joins Staff

    Kirsten Donaldson recentlyjoined BCSSI as the new Asst.Director of Personal Services.Kirsten and her husband Jeremylive in Zionsville and have fourchildren, Cole (10), Sophie (7),Savannah (5) and Scarlett (14months). She grew up in Iowaand went to college at the

    University of Iowa. After collegeshe worked in hospitaladministration in Chicago whereshe met her husband. Shereceived her Masters inCounseling from BradleyUniversity. She has beenstaying at home the last 10years with their children. In herspare time, she enjoys to run,scrapbook and watch football

    (especially Big 10 and the Colts!)

    Book Group participated in theUnited Way Day of Caring.Both organizations assistedlocal seniors with their yards.Gander Mountain employeeshelped with patio repairs,

    Caregiver Support GroupMeets Monthly

    Caregiver support group

    members Sandy Chambers,Jayne Brickey, WandaVolbrecht and Joyce Garmenmeet monthly to provideemotional support to oneanother.

    Many caregivers fell alone,helpless, confused, unprepared,tired and unable to provide forthose needs of their loved one.The group helps address these

    personal needs.The next monthly meetings ofthe group are November 17 andDecember 22 from 6:00-8:00PMat BCSSI. Contact BCSSI for

    Agency Stroll Garden Breaks Ground

    Recently a cement walkway waspoured in the new Stroll Garden.

    Tilling has been started and severalbulbs have been planted. Watch formore additions next spring and earlysummer. If you can donate items,volunteer your time to the creation,

    BCSSI Spotlight

    Meet Volunteer Gary Powell

    If you recentlyattended theBoone Senior Expoor the Zionsville

    Senior Fair youmight have had theopportunity to metBCSSI volunteer

    Gary Powell. Gary has been a

    volunteer with the organization forfour years. He follows in hisparents footsteps, who were alsoavid volunteers and enjoyedvisiting homebound seniors inBoone County.

    Gary and his wife Peggy movedto Boone County five years agofrom the Chicago suburbs to carefor his parents. They have twodaughters, four grandchildren and

    one great-grandchild. His motheris still living. Gary is a realtor withF.C. Tucker Company inZionsville.

    Gary was instrumental in helping

    BCSSI implement the BooneCounty Senior Health & Wellness

    Expo held each October. Mostrecently, he is involved with theplanning and creation of the newStroll Garden located on the

    north side of the agencybuilding. Gary enjoys beingable to use his previousexperience in landscaping withthis special project.

    Garys hobbies include singingin the Second PresbyterianChurch choir, biking and golfing.

    BCSSI is a great organization.I have not seen anything like it

    in the areas I have previouslylived. It has been a greatexperience to be part of theBCSSI family and I look forwardto what can be done and whatthe future might hold as we

    move forward to newchallenges.

    BCSSI would like to thankGary for his time anddedication to our agencysefforts.

    Southern Spiced PecansSubmitted by Sharon Walker

    1/3 cup butter1 1/2 t. ground cumin1/4 t. cayenne pepper

    3 cups pecans (halves or wholes)2 T. sugar1 t. salt

    In a large skillet, melt butter. Add the cumin and cayenne, cook andstir for one minute. Remove from the heat; stir in the pecans, sugarand salt until pecans are well coated. Spread in a single layer on agreased 15x10x1 inch baking pan. Bake at 300 F for 25-30minutes, stirring occasionally. Cool. Store in an airtight container.

    Pumpkin CrunchSubmitted by Cindy Elliott

    1 16oz. can of solid pumpkin1 12oz. can evaporated milk3 eggs1 1/2 cups sugar4 t. pumpkin pie spice

    1/4 t. salt1 box Duncan Hines

    Butter Cake Mix1 cup chopped pecans2 sticks butter

    Preheat oven 350 F. Grease the bottom of a 9x13inch pan. In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin,evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, pumpkin pie spice andsalt. Mix well and pour into greased pan. Sprinkledry cake mix on top of pumpkin mixture. Melt the

    sticks of butter and drizzle over cake mix. Sprinkle pecans on top ofbutter. Bake for approximately 50-55 minutes.

    Apple Cheese BallSubmitted by Janie Cunningham

    1 16oz. block of cream cheese2 tart apples (Granny Smith or

    Macintosh)1/2 cup of nuts (your choice)

    1/2 cup of celery1 1/2 t. of cinnamon sugar mix1/4 t. nutmeg

    Soften cream cheese. Finely dice the apples, nuts andcelery. Mix in with the cream cheese. Add cinnamonsugar and nutmeg. Mix well. Shape into ball. Chill.Great with graham crackers. You may also addadditional nuts and roll the ball into the nuts.

    BBQ Party Meat BallsSubmitted by Janie Cunningham

    1 1/2 lbs. ground beef1 box Stove Top Stuffing

    (beef or chicken)

    1 T. A-1 sauce1 onion chopped fine1/3 cup ketchup

    Preheat oven 350 F. Combine ingredients and form walnut sizeballs. Bake for 25-30 minutes. When no longer pink put into crockpot. Pour an entire bottle of honey BBQ sauce or sauce of yourchoice. Keep on low for 4-6 hours and serve.
