The secondary school opens
its doors
In previous newsletters we have
been sharing with you how the
work of Tim and Wilma in
Chawolo is expanding.
The secondary school opened
its doors on March 18th with 30
students in the first two grades.
Seven of these children are still in need of a sponsor.
Tim and Wilma have recruited
ten teachers who will teach
different subjects.
We are still busy looking for
more sponsors so we can offer
a hope-filled future to more
children.
News
SPONSORSHIP FUND At this moment we have found sponsors for 23
children who will be attending the first and second
years of the secondary school. To cover the costs
and keep the school going, we require a minimum
of 20 sponsored children per grade.
The Board realizes that €30 per month may be
too much for one person or one family, but it is
still possible for you to offer a child hope for the
future. You can donate a monthly amount of your
choice, between €5 and €30 to the benefit of the
sponsorship fund.
Combined sponsorships will provide a child with a
future filled with hope. It is possible to receive a
digital update on the progress of your sponsored
child twice a year. Get more info or sign up at
[email protected] and you will be
notified about the procedure and your sponsor
child.
April 2013 Year 4, no. 1
News from the Board The heart of Child Destiny of Hope lies in Uganda, Africa. That’s where the lives of children are permanently changed and improved. Here in The Netherlands, the voluntary board members of the organization are working hard to make all this possible. To keep you up to date on our activities, we send you the board newsletter at regular intervals.

And that’s not all...
CDHope works in a remote and very
poor area. As a foundation, we aspire
to achieve a lasting effect on the lives
of children, and education is a good
tool for breaking the vicious circle of
poverty. CDHope wants to make a
difference in the lives of the
underprivileged village children. We depend on donations. Time for some
fundraising! Weteringloop The group of volunteers who will be
going out to Uganda this summer
participated in the Weteringloop, held
in Kamerik on April 20th. Backed by
sponsors, they took part in the five
kilometer race. The fastest runner
reached the finish line in 20 minutes.
The whole group completed the race.

Weteringloop Queen’s Day 2013 with a splash
In Kamerik there was a fair on
Queen’s Day. ‘Water” was the central
theme with a banner saying:
“Chawolo is gasping for water, please
help us drill”. We are aiming to help
the whole village of Chawolo replace
their ailing, failing water well with a
new clean, safe and user-friendly well powered by solar panels.
The activities included a watergame
and a raffle with various prizes donat-
ed by local businesses. The first prize
was a tablet. Handmade greeting
cards were sold for € 1.00 a piece at
one of the kiosks.
Fun-fundraising
MEET AND GREET Tim and Wilma and their children will be
coming to The Netherlands for three weeks.
They would love to get to meet you. To make
this possible, we will organize a program for
friends, family, sponsors and all those
interested in their work.
During that afternoon, you will be able to meet
them personally and ask questions. Members of
the Board and the home front team will also be
in attendance. Tim and Wilma will speak about
their work in Uganda.
There will also be a kiosk where you can
purchase Ugandan arts and crafts and
handmade greetings cards. Date and details
will be communicated shortly.
Reinforcement for the
Board
Two new members have joined
the Board – Bert van Vreeswijk
and Wim van der Graaf. Bert is
introducing himself in this
newsletter and Wim will be
doing so in the next one. This
expansion of the Board will
enable us to share the tasks more efficiently.
Arrival of Tim and Wilma
Tim, Wilma, Jaimie and Eugene
will be in The Netherlands from
May 24th until June 18th. We are
glad for this opportunity to
exchange ideas with them and
strengthen the bonds with all
those who are interested in this
work, their sponsors and the
home front team. The Omalla
family truly deserves this vaca-
tion!
Although the tickets have been
reserved, the funds available for
this expense item do not suffice.
Visitors to Uganda 2013
A group of 4 adults and 6
children are hoping to visit
Chawolo this summer for two
weeks. The upcoming months
will be focused on fundraising
activities to finance the prospec-
tive water well and pump.

New Board member, shopping, accommodation, airline tickets
New Board member It is my pleasure to take part
in CDHope’s custom of
introducing myself as new
board member.
My name is Bert van
Vreeswijk and for the past
three years I have been
enjoying pre-retirement from
Philips Telecom where I used
to work. I am married to
Gerrie Schoenmaker and we
have been blessed with 3
children, 3 children-in-law
and 3 grandchildren.
Since a young age I have been
itching to do something
meaningful for others and at
this time of my life I want to
give back in gratitude for all
of my blessings. When I went
to Chawolo last year it quick-
ly became clear to me that I
wanted to devote more of
my time to the children and
the village and to the whole
organization of CDHope. My
role on the Board will be
focussed on coordinating and
assisting fund-raising projects
for CDHope. Please contact
me if you would like to start
up a project.
Goede Doel Shop You can still carry out your
on-line purchases from the
same retailers and at the same
price via Goede Doel Shop.
Your purchases will provide
CDHope a financial contribu-
tion at no extra cost to
yourself. There are more than
300 retailers to choose from.
When making an on-line
purchase, check first via
www.goededoelshop.nl if the
retailer of your choice is
participating, and secure a
dona t ion for CDHope .
Amongst the participating shops
you will find Bol.com, Hema,
V&D, C&A, Blokker, Bruna,
Independer.nl and many more.
Accommodation and transportation have been arranged! We issued an electronic
solicitation in March for
accommodation and transporta-
tion for Tim, Wilma, Eugene
and Jaimie Omalla during their
visit to The Netherlands in May/
June of this year.
We are thankful for your
reactions and for a home and
car that have been made
available to them for the
duration of their furlough
visit.
Airfare We are still looking for
sponsors who would contrib-
ute an amount towards their
airfare in order to make their
May/June visit a reality.
You can donate via electronic
funds transfer to account 1281.29.956 in the name of
CDHope, Kamerik, with the
mention “tickets Omalla
family”.
The support work for CDHope in the Netherlands is carried out solely by volunteers. There is a board of directors and two work teams: the sponsor fund team and the home front team. The work teams support CDHope but are not members of the board.
The home front team takes care of:
Maintaining the address database
Writing the newsletters, thank you notes, posters, flyers and
presentations
Matching up sponsors and children
Maintaining the sponsorship administration and the waiting list
Putting together sponsor folders and sending updates about the
children to the sponsors
Organizing the annual general meeting and organizing the practical
details of the furlough visits
Communications between Uganda and The Netherlands
Attending meetings and
Maintaining the website and mailbox
What can the home front team assist you with? Mainly with all sorts of
practical tasks that happen behind the scene. Should you have a change of
address or wish to sponsor a child or want to organize a fundraising activity, an email message to: [email protected] or a letter to Hazelaarlaan 3, 2803 BS Gouda will do the job. The home front can also provide you with attractive custom made folder materials for your projects according to your requirements.
What is the home
front team and what do they do?
