2013 marked the 162nd year for the Alpha Delta Pi Grand Convention, which was held this summer in Dallas,
Texas. This was a great year for the Nashville Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Association as we were awarded the Collumnae Award for our work with
Zeta Rho as well as the Alumnae Achievement award, which includes a donation by Alpha Delta Pi to the
Clasped Hands Fund of the Foundation in honor of our association. Additionally, the Association was awarded the Diamond 4 Point Award.
President Katie Herndon attended the Convention and accepted the awards on behalf of the Association. A huge
shout out to the 2011-2012 as well as the 2012-2013 Executive Board members, as their planning and enthusiasm was part of our success!

Hello Sisters!
I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer! Mine has been filled with
weddings, a few quick trips, and some time out on the water. At the end of June, I represented our wonderful group of women at the 162nd Grand
Convention of Alpha Delta Pi in Dallas, Texas. Our hard work has paid off and were were recognized with
several awards! The Collumnae Award, shared with Zeta Rho, for our relationship with their chapter,
Diamond 4 Point Award and Alumnae Achievement were all awarded to our Association.
This year’s theme, “Deep in the Heart,”
provided great direction for our business meetings and in my personal reflection throughout that week. I
encourage you all to take time to reflect on what Alpha Delta Pi means to you and what brought you home to us.
It is what is deep in our hearts that makes us different from any other organization of women.
I am honored to be serving as your President for the upcoming year. Your
Executive Board has been hard at work getting some new and exciting things in place that I think everyone will enjoy. I
look forward to seeing many of you, whether it be at our monthly programming, Sister Suppers, or Happy Hour!
Loyally,
Katie Herndon, PresidentBeta Beta

Panhellenic Update
The Nashville Area Panhellenic Alumnae Association (NAPPA) is composed of all the NPC sororities in the Nashville area. Alpha Delta Pi is a member and has two
delegates involved in the group.
www.nashvillepanhellenic.org | www.facebook.com/NashPan
The Nashville Panhellenic Association will host a fundraiser and luncheon in the upcoming Spring of 2014. Funds from
the luncheon are donated to a scholarship fund for Nashville girls who will be attending colleges that have sororities.
Alpha Delta Pi will be responsible for selling tickets to the luncheon (usually 10) and providing items for the silent
auction. The actual date and time of the luncheon will be announced as soon as those plans are confirmed.
Currently two donations have been made: Cheryl Oglesby
has donated 2 pillows from Sprintz and Julie Cox has provided 2 chairs and a pair of beach towels. If you have any items that you’d like to donate for the auction, please notify Alice Yopp at [email protected] or Cheryl Oglesby at
[email protected]. Additionally, a sign-up sheet will be available at the first meeting for those interested in making a donation.
Here’s the theory! This is our LAST colossal garage sale to support our activities and
donations to the Ronald McDonald House. Our members this year can make it our best! In late 2014, we will
have new plans from our Fundraising Committee, so let’s put our Pi Pride into action and
make this the biggest and the best.
Let’s start with the easy part:
shopping! Several of our sisters have already snagged and stored donations from neighbors, family, and co-
workers; and we have some of the best year sale finds you can imagine. We’ve already sold
almost $150 worth! So if you want to grab up the really, really good stuff, join us for a
merchandising night October 14-17. It’s fun, not too hard and we have a party theme
ever night!
Tory Burch shoes, Gap coats, kitchen tools, new best seller books, DVDs, CDs, and more -
and these are just a glimpse of some of the finds our members have scooped up in recent sales.
This year, we’ve got furniture finds of all kinds. Those of you who are our HGTV creative
types and can refinish a book case or a dresser, get here early! That’s not to mention the lamps and other home
decor - oh and we forgot to mention the serving ware from Lenox to Fiesta and more!

organization that accepts donations of this kind. A few hours should do it! Please, if
your schedule does not allow any time during that week to help,

ABOUT NASHVILLE RMH:
We are very blessed in the fact there is a Ronald McDonald House right in the heart of Nashville. Since its
opening in 1991, the Nashville RMH has served families from all over Tennessee in addition to those from Kentucky and many other states. They’ve even be called home by those from 13 foreign countries. The house has
32 bedrooms with a Family Room on the 5th Floor of the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital.
Our Alumnae Association will continue to support the
Nashville RMH this year in a number of ways. For our first meeting, please bring paper towels for the House Pantry.... and don’t forget to continue collecting pull-tabs! We’ll have
“collection houses” available at each meeting, so feel free to bring your pull-tabs to meeting and Pam Zimmerman will collect and deliver them to the house.

News from Zeta Rho
Thanks to those of you who have donated your time to the Mentoring Program and other joint events, Katie was able to bring home several Convention awards related to
alumnae participation with Zeta Rho. Let’s continue the tradition!
Because of the hard work and success of prior Chairmen, the Mentoring Program has become very special to the
Zeta Rho Seniors as well as many alums. The Chapter members first hear of the program when they become Alpha members and look forward to participating during
their senior year. This year we have almost 50 seniors who have indicated they would like to participate. Last year we had 35. ALUMS - WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Interested in being a mentor for a Zeta Rho senior? We need your participation in order to pair mentoring partners
later in September. All ages of alumnae are welcome. Whether you are just starting your career, are retired or anywhere in between, you can be a great sister and mentor
to a graduating Zeta Rho. This is not a work based mentoring program but rather our way of bonding with other sisters to show the Delta members that Alpha Delta
Pi is for a lifetime. The time commitment is minimal - maybe lunch, dinner or a cup of coffee during the year, attending the Fall Mentoring Kickoff and Jewel Degree in the Spring. Otherwise, you will mainly communicate by email to
provide support and make a new friend. Many members of our Association have made great young alumnae friends by joining.
For details or to sign up, please contact Beverly Sledge at 615-973-2846 or [email protected].
