Associates’ and MedicalStudents’ ActivitiesClinical vignettes and posters preparedby Associates will be presented at themeeting. The top two abstracts fromthe Chapter’s Associates’ program on January 12, 2013 will be presentedduring the main session. The next six highest scoring abstracts from thesame program will present their abstractson Friday at lunch. The next eighthighest scoring displaying their abstractposters throughout Friday and Saturdaymorning.

Abstracts for the competition at theClinical Update are selected fromthose who presented at the Associates’program in January. A “Call forAbstracts” for the 2014 Associates’program will go out to Associates andmedical students in mid-July.

On Saturday, an all-day session formedical students will be held. The day will include Doctor’s DilemmaTM

(Medical Jeopardy).

Chapter Excellence AwardWinnerWe are pleased toannounce thatour Chapter is therecipient of a 2012Chapter Excellence Award. TheChapter Excellence Award recognizesthose chapters that excel in reachingthe standards for managing a chapter,such as communicating to members,instituting Medical Students’ andAssociates’ activities and advancingand recruiting members. A ChapterExcellence certificate will be awardedat the meeting.

Chapter AwardIt is with distinct pleasure that theVirginia Chapter presents Laureate,Volunteerism, and Young InternistAwards this year. The awards will bepresented during the lunch on Saturday.

• Improve clinical practice by incor-porating major new developmentsin treatment of muscle pain, heartfailure, prevention of cardiovasculardisease, urogynecology, use of EMR,and medical coding.

• Diagnose and manage dementia,disorders of the hair and nails, andpsychologic illness.

• Understand controversies in weightloss management, cost-consciouscare, and direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs.
