Writing a letter for the Annual Report always requires a look back to the prior year. In doing so, however, I realized that more of you who are currently send-
ing children to WMS arrived in the most recent period of the school’s history than have been here since the days when the entire school occupied just the Woodinville site. It feels right just now to look back a little farther to see just how far we have come. The year 2014–2015 marked the 13th year since we began the fi rst of the six phases of expansion completed thus far at the North Creek campus, the third year since we purchased the North Creek buildings and the fi rst year of the planned addition of grades 10, 11 and 12. During those 13 years we’ve increased the internal square footage occupied by the school by a factor of nine; we’ve added 11 classrooms, including three new program levels (toddler, junior high and now high school); we’ve increased our staff by a fac-tor of four and nearly tripled our enrollment. We also purchased the Woodinville campus from the original owner and earned accreditation of our school and programs. We have a small group of students pioneering the growth at high school, and we even graduated our fi rst high school senior last year. Past and current Board members, faculty, staff and families asked for that—and made it even a possibility—by their hard work, volunteerism and continued fi nancial support. You, along with all of us, are experiencing the possibilities and benefi ts of the deep appreciation and commitment to Montessori education that drove this growth and success. Other things that our school community made possible last year included refi nancing the LLC loan and North Creek mortgages to allow a more predictable fi nancial future. Our fi rst Capital Campaign concluded. Along with the results of the “Raise the Paddle” at the Spring Gala, that allowed us to give the “go” signal to initiate summer work toward some of the plans to convert the outdoor space at North Creek into a learning and play environment closer to what we off er at the Woodinville campus and one that better meets our older students’ needs. The 2013–2014 “Raise the Paddle” focus on fi nancial aid helped off set some of the loss in revenue that we experience in meeting our commitment to socio-economic diversity. We completed much in the way of building maintenance at both sites, up-dated our computer network and expanded staff hours for our Learning Support, Secondary faculty, advancement and facilities departments. We replaced or added learning materials in every classroom and continued our support for the ongoing professional growth and development of our faculty and staff .
