This year, an anticipated 53,000 people will enjoy the 2014 edition of this unique four-day

festival and, with 25 sports now represented, what began as a Memorial Day whitewater event has evolved into a true celebration of everything outdoors.

As many as 10 kayakers race through a 200–meter timed sprint and attempt to avoid being knocked out by the 8 Ballers, kayakers waiting patiently to attack and slow them down on their way to the finish line at the International Bridge. Think full-contact kayaking where rubbin’ is racin’.

Kayak: Bud Light Lime-A-Rita Down River Sprint*Gore CreekBoaters shuttle out to the East Vail put-in and race three

miles down the class II-III waters of Gore Creek to the Covered Bridge finish in Vail Village. With a rally race format – kayakers drop at timed intervals – competitors are racing against the clock.

Stand Up Paddle: SUP Surf Sprint*Gore CreekMirrored off the classic Down River Sprint, the race is on a timed three-mile stretch of Gore Creek from East Vail to Vail Village. Competitors must stand strong on the class II-III rapids of this course as low bridges, drops and wave trains make for some tricky paddling in the shadows of the Gore Range.



Stand Up Paddle: SUP Surf CrossInternational BridgeThink boardercross meets SUP in this mass-start-every-man/woman-for-themselves format. The first to survive the 300-yard sprint from the Covered Bridge to the International Bridge wins. Along the way, athletes try to remain standing through collisions and obstacles, both natural and man-made.

Costa 2 Fly X-StreamRound 1 – Golden Peak East Round 2 – International BridgeFinals – An undisclosed section of riverProfessional and amateur anglers compete side by side in the preliminary casting round, which is judged on accuracy and distance. From there, the top 20 men and five women move to Gore Creek and again cast for accuracy from the river banks to a hanging target from the International Bridge. The top 10 men and the top two women move on to the finals held on Sunday. The final round is held on an undisclosed local river based on up-to-date water and fishing conditions. The location is announced on Saturday night for Sunday’s finals where finalists fish for highest count and fish size with only two fly patterns total. The angler racking up the highest points wins the grand prize and more cash is awarded for the largest single catch of the day.

Jack Link’s Beef Jerky Ultimate Mountain Challenge The Ultimate Mountain Challenge (UMC) is the ultimate test of skill, power and endurance where marquee athletes — many at the pinnacle of their professional careers — push through some of the most demanding races in the country, all in two days. The combined lowest times in four events determine the ultimate pro individuals (man and woman) and the ultimate amateur teams (men and women).

Saturday’s events are the Bud Light Lime-A-Rita Down River Sprint and the Thule X-Country Mountain Bike. Sunday’s competitions are the Vasque 10k Spring Runoff the Thule Road Bike Time Trial.
