Bluegrass Basics for the American String TeacherTraditionalAmericanfiddlemusichasbecomemoreandmoreprominentinthemodernstringplayer’smusicalvocabulary.Inparticular,bluegrassmusichasresonatedwithclassicallytrainedmusicians,andmanyofthemcanperformseveraltraditionalold-timeAmericanfiddletunes.However,unlikeold-timemusic,bluegrassmusicinvolvessignificantimprovisatoryelementsandblendsstylesincludingbluesandjazz.Theresultingmusichasaunique rhythmic drive and a distinct harmonic language that has causedittobecomeoneofAmerica’smostbelovedanduniquemusicalgenres.Inthisworkshop,attendeeswillbeexposedtothehistoricalunderpinningsofBluegrassandthestylistichallmarksthatmakethemusicunique.Standardtuneswillbepresentedasafoundationtodevelopaccompanimentandsolotechniques.
