Millionair Club Charity Annual Report 2015 2015 Annual Report 2015: The Year of Homecoming at the Millionair Club Charity The Millionair Club Charity has operated in Belltown Seattle for almost a century but this year we finally made it our home. In 2015, the MCC opened the doors of our brand new Kasota Apartments. Over 70 MCC workers secured permanent housing, accessed transitional housing, or avoided eviction through our Housing Assistance Program. At the Millionair Club Charity we believe that housing is vital to the success of our workers – a peaceful place to sleep, secure storage for belongings, and the ability to shower and do laundry. You might take these things for granted but just imagine going to work every day without them! Long-term employment success is the goal for Kasota residents, who are drawn from the MCC’s very own Employment Program. And these private apartments are designed with job readiness in mind. Each room has a kitchenette and easy access to shared shower and laundry facilities. Everything is in one place so that our dedicated workers can focus on their employment goals. Kasota is an important piece of the job readiness equation for men and women who are trying to lift themselves out of homelessness and poverty. In 2015, 135 hardworking men and women were placed in permanent jobs with support from the Millionair Club Charity. We are excited to see that number grow as we add even more support services, like housing, to our MCC Employment Program. Jim Miller Julie Johnson Executive Director President, Board of Trustees

Introducing Transitional Housing: MCC Style In 2015, the Millionair Club Charity opened the doors to our very own Kasota Apartments. The Kasota is conveniently located in the heart of Belltown and it houses 47 single occupancy rooms that are available to members of the MCC’s Employment Program. In 2015, 60% of the MCC’s workforce was homeless or unstably housed, so coming home to Kasota was an emotional experience for many of our new tenants.

“I wish you could see their faces when they’re signing their lease,” explains Angele, Senior Director of Programs at the MCC. “These are often people who have spent years in homeless shelters or living on the streets. When I say, ‘welcome home,’ they often burst into tears. It is a monumental moment for them.” The Kasota Apartment follows a transitional housing model: renters can live in the building for up to two years while they pay a subsidized rent of $500 per month. Paying some rent helps residents who were formerly homeless rebuild their credit and their standing as reliable tenants. After two years, residents will be able to secure permanent housing using these new credentials, as they continue on the path of stability and self-reliance. 2015 Employment Partner of the Year: iClick

For 10 years, the Millionair Club Charity has been sending workers to local tech manufacturer iCliCk! This company is the MCC’s oldest, and most consistent employers. In 2015, iClick’s compassionate and creative approach to managing our MCC workforce once again provided more job hours for our MCC workers than other employer.

As a proud producer of “Made in the USA” products iClick has a growing need for warehouse employees, which is where the Millionair Club Charity helps them fulfill their staffing needs. Looking past the rough edges, iClick is able to see the unique work ethic of our Millionair Club Charity workers. For members of MCC Employment Program, it’s not just a job; it’s a chance to change their lives through work.

Scott’s Message: Jobs and Housing Under One Roof “It’s Key”

After Scott’s dad lost his job as a software engineer the pair became homeless. From that moment, hard times only got harder—five years sleeping in shelters and friends’ beds, moving from state to state and seeking help from social service agencies. Then Scott came joined the Millionair Club Charity’s employment program, and everything started to change.

Within a week, eager and hardworking Scott had obtained a permanent job at a Tom Douglas restaurant and a room at the new Kasota apartment building. Scott told his dad about the Millionair Club Charity, and now he is employed at Century Link Stadium and lives down the hall from Scott at the Kasota apartments. Five years later, father and son are back on their feet together, with help from the MCC.

“I don’t know if there is a Millionair Club anywhere else, but there should be. It’s a place where you can shower, eat, do your laundry, they have clothes if you need it, anything. Then they find you work – it’s key!” –Scott
