Just Imagine

Why move to Clark-Lindsey?

It’s where you can be you! Your life, your direction, your home, your personal portrait.

A vibrant community starts with each individual. We believe each person should be freeto express themselves creatively, to contribute their unique personality and embracetheir life journey. And each day that journey begins anew, right here, right now.

Clark-Lindsey is an engaging, multi-level retirement community with services andopportunities for continued personal growth at every step of your life journey. Fromthe adventurous to the contemplative, our goal is to support your vision of life.

It is when people come together – residents, team members, family and friends – thatsomething amazing happens.

You inspire us.What inspires you?

We believe in nurturing well-being, whatever thatmay look like to each person. It’s not abouteveryone doing the same things at the same time, year after year. It’s about participating in the kindsof things you have loved to do for years and tryingout something new you’ve always wanted to try.We believe you’re never too old to grow and nevertoo young to learn.

Take, for example, Peggy Porter who at 90 yearsyoung got her first ride on a Harley Davidsonmotorcycle. Donning her peach leather jacket, heradventure took off in the side car of a bike shedreamed about for years. Upon her return shecommented, “One more thing off my bucket list. Now on to the next!”

She and people like her inspire us. What inspiresyou?

Never too old for a parade!

Some of the residents at Clark-Lindsey are alumniof the University of Illinois. Others havedistinguished university careers. Still others aredoctors, lawyers, farmers, business people andmore. But regardless of background or universityaffiliation, most are genuine Illini fans eager towatch a game, attend the performance of a worldrenowned artist or continue learning as a memberof the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

Whatever your relationship to this great university, nothing shows your Illini spirit quite like attendingthe annual Illinois Homecoming Parade - unless ofcourse it is building a float and RIDING in theparade.

That’s just what a group of residents and teammembers did! For some, it was the first time theywent from parade spectator to active participant.

Clark-Lindsey and the University of Illinois eachbenefit from being neighbors. Whether it’s theexperience student interns receive from workinghere or amenities developed as a result ofcollaborative research, both organizations offer amore enriched experience to their membersbecause of this close relationship.

Your well-being is our focus.

Clark-Lindsey is one of eight communities in thenation to have earned the designation as Center forSuccessful Aging. Why?  Because we believesuccessful aging is not merely growing older. It’snot necessarily about big accomplishments. It is notabout looking ‘younger than your age’. It’s not evenabout ‘acting’ younger than your age. We use theterm ‘successful aging’ to describe how we aregrowing as we grow older. It’s about successfullyconnecting to a purpose beyond one’s own self, inspite of the challenges that aging may impose on us.It’s about continuing to give to others, to nurtureothers, and to grow ourselves.

Successful aging isn’t some pretty picture in amagazine. It doesn’t come from a super busyactivity calendar. We see successful aging in theeyes of those who understand that life is full ofunavoidable surprises. But with the support of oneanother, those bumps are more tolerable and thosemoments of joy are more enjoyable. Successfulaging is the laughter from the morning coffee table,is in the curiosity of our senior scholars, and is inthe quietness of being among friends.

Successful aging is about nurturing your well-beingregardless of your stage of life.

Your connection with nature has healthy benefits.

While beautiful to the eyes, gardens also havetherapeutic health benefits. Research shows thatgardens can help reduce stress and improve health outcomes. Connecting with nature can engage yourmind, offer physical wellness and touch your spirit.

Our goal is to provide exceptional gardenexperiences for residents, staff and visitors in a waythat supports well being. Today, approximately 27acres of grounds include nearly 700 trees labeledwith common name, proper nomenclature andnative habitat. Mixed plant borders of trees, shrubs, perennial flowers and annual flowers abound.

Don’t be surprised to see a Tai Chi class in theMasterpiece gardens one morning and a local bandperforming that evening. Or maybe you’ll hearlaughter coming from our game courts while othersare busy tending to flowers in their own residentgarden.

And our commitment to natural spaces extends tothe first-ever nature therapy walk in Meadowbrook. This beautiful feature offers a beautiful, yetpractical, mechanism for physical and occupationaltherapy.

We are committed to your experience here through aphilosophy of real home and meaningful life.

Our legacy

Clark-Lindsey was the dream of Ethel Clark and Maud Neva Lindsey, sisters who directed their estate be placed in trust for theestablishment of a “home for the elderly”. The sisters envisionedThe Village as a place in which one would want to live ― a place ofcongenial and secure surroundings with the availability of qualityhealth care.

Their generosity allowed for land acquisition and support for earlyplanning expenses. Officials broke ground for The Village on March20, 1977, with the first residents taking occupancy in October 1978.

Nearly a decade after the first residents moved to The Village,Clark-Lindsey doubled the size of its health center by adding twoadditional wings, naming the newly expanded space MeadowbrookHealth Center. Meadowbrook underwent a comprehensive $5million renovation in 2005. The Village experienced a $2 millionexpansion creating new amenity spaces, including a state-of-the-artlibrary and computer center in 2007.

Clark-Lindsey continues its legacy in innovation with plans to breakground on a new Wellness and Aquatic Center in 2015 that willinclude a swimming pool, new fitness center and greatly expandedtherapy gym. Two new small homes will be built as well, focusingon a new resident care model specifically for those living withAlzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Clark-Lindsey is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization overseen by avolunteer Board of Directors with expertise in a variety of areas.Your investment in Clark-Lindsey goes right back into running theorganization.

It’s your well-being is at the heart of what we do.
