li family foundry -- the oldest in Tuscany. Located just 30 minutes

out of the city, it is also the home of one of the largest private col-

lections of original casts from the classical and Renaissance period.

Members are invited to join Ferdiando Marinelli, the heir to and

proprietor of this magnificent family tradition who will share his

knowledge about the history of bronze, some secrets of how to

understand the nuances of evaluating bronze in todays art world.

Afterward, enjoy a fabulous meal with Ferdinando, surrounded by

the original casts of some of the worlds most famous sculptures.

Popular leader and Renaissance art historian, Elaine Ruffolo, has

been thecoordinator of the Field Studies program at Syracuse Uni-

versity for years.

Known for her uncanny ability to bring historical characters, lives

and ancienttimes to life with vignettes of daily life, Elaine will treat

Members and guests to a special talk about one of Florence’s best

known sculptors, Donatello.

Elaine is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, received a

Masters of Arts in art history from Syracuse University and was

awarded a Florence fellowship in 1987. She is currently working on

a guidebook for Florence.

Natascha will be playing a program of Mozart and Schumann.

The daughter of an artist, Natascha Majek began her studies of

thepianoforte at the age of seven with Dafne Filippini-Salati in

Lugano, Switzerland. Having obtained her high school diploma,

she then went on to graduate in less than two years from the Con-

servatorio della Svizzera Italiana with the argentine pianist Nora

Doallo. Following this she then completed three years of develop-

ment in the class of Homero Francesch at the Musikhochschule of

Zurich. In 1998 she moved to Florence, Italy where she followed

her degree of high soloist development with Piernarciso Masi, she

then spent two years in Paris in the class of Edson Elias.

Returning to Italy in 2002, she collaborated with the Conservato-

rio della Svizzera Italiana as an accompanist and participated in

various masterclasses led by Bruno Canino in Florence. Since 2010

she has divided her time between teaching the pianoforte and

performing as a recitalist, dedicating her time above all to soloist

repertoire.

Ermelinda M. Campani is the Spogli Family Director of Stanford’s

Breyer Center for Overseas Studies in Florence. A native of Emilia

Romagna,she earned an M.A. in Italian literature and a Ph.D. in

film studies (ModernCulture and Media) both from Brown Univer-

sity. Prior to joining StanfordUniversity in 1993, she taught cour-

ses at Brown and the Rhode Island School of Design and served

as acting director of the Brown University Program in Bologna,

Italy. She has also been a visiting scholar at Yale University, the

University of Perugia, Florida State University, New York Universi-

ty in Florence, and at the University of Florence. At Stanford, she

teaches film history as well as film theory and criticism. Her pu-

blications include a monographic book on Bernardo Bertolucci, a

book on cinema and the sacred (translated into French in 2007),

and a book on cinema’s representations of the human body. She

has written articles both on European and US film journals, has

contributed entries to the encyclopedia of World Cinema and has

lectured widely. Her current research revolves around iconology

and the filmic image.
