2017-18 RECRUITING CLASSDuquesne announced the signing of Lewis Djonkam (Springfield, Va./Hargrave Military Academy), John Walker III (Missouri City, Texas) and Jamari Wheeler (Live Oak, Fla./The Rock School) to National Letters of Intent during the fall early-signing period. The 6-8, 230-pound Djonkam is playing for defending 2016 Prep National Champion Hargrave Military Academy as a post-graduate this season, after helping West Springfield High School to the Virginia Class 6A state quarterfinal last year. Djonkam averaged a team-high 14.4 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in earning Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 6A Second Team All-State honors. Walker III, a 6-8 combo forward who is ranked as a 3-star recruit and as the No. 33 power forward nationally by Scout.com., had interest from C-USA, AAC, and Big 12 programs prior to committing to Duquesne. Walker III, who stood 6-3 as a freshman, is coming off a solid AAU season with Texas Pro. Wheeler, another 3-star recruit, was named First Team Boys Independent All-State by the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches (FABC) following his junior season at The Rock School in Gainesville, Fla. He averaged 13.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 3.3 steals for the Lions, who reached quarterfinals of the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association (SIAA) State Tournament.

RECAPDerrick Colter and Micah Mason scored 23 points each to lead Duquesne to a 78-67 win over Saint Louis at Chaifetz Arena. The win, DU’s fifth in its past six games, upped the Dukes’ record to 15-7 overall and 5-4 in the Atlantic 10. Saint Louis fell to 8-13 overall and 3-6 in conference play. Duquesne missed 18 of its first 21 shots in falling behind 19-7 with nine minutes left in the half. SLU led 21-12 when Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry was whistled for a technical foul following a bucket by the Billikens’ Brett Jolly at the 6:00 mark. Jermaine Bishop missed both technical free throws and Jolly couldn’t convert the potential three-point play. The Dukes then got a pair of 3-pointers from Mason and four points each from Darius Lewis and Mar’Qywell Jackson to close the half with an 18-6 run to take a 30-27 lead. DU was up 46-40 when Mason picked up his fourth foul and headed to the bench with 10:02 left. SLU quickly cut it to three before Colter - who scored 20 in the second half - took over. The senior guard hit a jumper and 3-pointer and found Eric James for an alley-oop dunk to make it 53-45. The Dukes built the lead to 64-49 before the Billikens cut it to five with 2:44 to go. That’s when Mason buried his fifth and final 3-pointer to put the Dukes up eight. SLU made it 69-65 with 52 seconds left, but Mason and Colter combined to hit six free throws over the final 37 seconds to seal the win. Duquesne, which shot 38.7 percent, was 9-of-26 from the 3-point arc. SLU shot 37.5 percent, including 9-of-23 from 3-point. Saint Louis finished with 19 turnovers to 18 for Duquesne. Mar’Qywell Jackson gave the Dukes a big boost off the bench with a career-high tying 10 points and a career-best 7 rebounds. Lewis and TySean Powell added 9 rebounds apiece for the Dukes, who outrebounded SLU 43-36.

RECAPTarin Smith led a balanced attack with career a high-tying 13 points, as Duquesne held Loyola, Md. to 36.5 percent shooting in a 65-60 season-opening win at the Palumbo Center. Darius Lewis had five of DU’s 12 blocked shots and first-year graduate transfer Emile Blackman added a career-high 10 boards for the Dukes who shot 41.4 percent. Duquesne, which led for all but a little over eight minutes of the game, took a 60-57 lead on an Eric James free throw with 2:35 left. The Dukes, who held the Greyhounds to 32.3 percent shooting in the second half, got a stop and Smith layup to go up five. Nakye Sanders blocked DU’s 12th shot, and Smith was fouled and hit one free throw to make it 63-57. Loyola got 3-pointer from Andre Walker, who finished with 21 points, to make it a three-point game with just over a minute left. Blackman missed a 3-point attempt deep in the shot clock, but James tracked down the rebound. Following a timeout, Mike Lewis II was stripped of the ball on a drive, but James once again came up with the ball, was fouled, and hit a pair of free throws with :11.1 left for the final margin. Freshman Spencer Littleson scored eight points and James added seven points and six rebounds for a Duquesne bench that out-scored Loyola’s 23-3. The Dukes matched their largest lead on a Smith jumper that made it 36-27 with 2:07 to go in the first half. Loyola got a jumper from Jarred Jones, who tied Walker for game scoring honors with 21 points, at the first half horn to make it 36-32. The Greyhounds outscored the Dukes 8-2 out of the half to take a 40-38 lead. The game remained tight until Littleson gave the Dukes the lead for good on a 3-pointer with 10:35 left. Duquesne took a 57-52 lead on a steal and breakaway dunk by Isiaha Mike with 6:54 remaining. Loyola cut it to two on a Jones bucket with just over three minutes left, before Duquesne closed the door.
NOTESFreshmen Isiaha Mike and Mike Lewis II both started ... it was the first time Duquesne started multiple freshmen in a season opener since 2006-07 when Scott Grote, Robert Mitchell and Stephen Wood started against Youngstown State ... it was just the third time in 30 years that more than one freshman started the opening game ... four of DU’s five starters: Isiaha Mike, Mike Lewis II, Tarin Smith and Emile Blackman, were playing their first game in a Duquesne uniform.

RECAPLamar Stevens scored 24 points and Tony Carr added 20 as Penn State shot 55.6 percent in the second half to pull away late for an 82-74 win over Duquesne at Bryce Jordan Center. Freshman Mike Lewis II had 19 points and senior Darius Lewis had 12 for the Dukes who were bidding to post back-to-back wins over PSU for the first time since 1987. Neither team led by more than six before Duquesne took a four-point lead on a Lewis II 3-pointer with 13:21 to go. PSU led by three with 5:20 left when Payton Banks banked in a 3-pointer to start a 10-3 run that gave the Nittany Lions some breathing room. Mike Watkins, who finished with 15 points, followed with a dunk and Carr added another three fol-lowed by a dunk by Lamar Stevens forcing DU to call a timeout down 72-63. Duquesne would get no closer than seven the rest of the way. The Nittany Lions, who went 1-of-12 from 3-point in the first half, hit 6-of-9 from beyond the arc in the second. There were six ties and four lead changes in a first half that ended with a Terrence Samuel layup just before the horn that gave the Nittany Lions a 33-29 lead. Neither team led by more than five in the opening 20 minutes. Penn State, who the Dukes held to 41.9 percent shooting in the first half, finished at 48.3 percent. Duquesne, which went 8-of-22 from 3-point, shot 41.3 percent.
NOTESFreshmen accounted for seven of Duquesne’s eight 3-pointers (Mike Lewis II 3-8, Spencer Littleson 2-5 and Isiaha Mike 2-2) ... Duquesne outscored Penn State’s bench 27-8. RECAPRene Castro came off the bench to hit six 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 26 points as Duquesne shot 62.1 percent in the second half to defeat Saint Francis U, 89-75 at the Palumbo Center. Fellow guard Tarin Smith added a career-best 23 and freshman Isiaha Mike scored 16 for the Dukes, who rallied from a 10-point first half deficit. Saint Francis took advantage of 11 Duquesne turnovers in the first nine-plus minutes to build a 20-10 lead. The Red Flash led 33-23 with 4:36 left in the half when Castro started a 13-2 run with his second of four first-half 3-pointers. Castro added two more treys during the run that saw the Dukes take their first lead at 36-35 on a Smith free throw. Smith, who had 13 in the half, hit a runner just before the horn to give the Dukes a 38-36 halftime lead. Duquesne hit 14 of its first 18 shots of the second half to take its first double-digit lead on a Castro 3-pointer that made it 60-49 with a little over 13 minutes left. SFU briefly cut it to five near the 10 minute mark, before Mike answered with a 3-pointer. The Dukes got the lead back to double digits again on Castro’s final 3-pointer with 6:19 left. The DU lead reached as many as 17 points in the final minutes. Nakye Sanders came off the bench to post 8 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks in 26 minutes. The points and as-sists were career highs and the rebound and block totals tied his career-best. Duquesne, which went 10-of-35 from the 3-point arc in its first two games, finished 13-of-25 from long distance. The Dukes, who entered the game with 19 team assists, assisted on 21 of 32 field goals. Nine of the 10 players who saw action had at least one assist. The Dukes, who shot 52.5 percent for the game, held SFU to 42.6 percent shooting. The Red Flash finished with 19 turnovers, to 17 for the Dukes.

RECAPPhil Valenti hit a pair of shots in the final 14 seconds - the second the game-winner with :01.9 left - to give Canisius a 78-77 win over Duquesne at the Pa-lumbo Center. Valenti’s winner came after Duquesne’s Isiaha Mike hit a baseline jumper with seven seconds left to give the Dukes the lead. Canisius quickly inbounded the ball and Isaiah Reese dribbled down the left side. He found Valenti at the foul line and Valenti launched a shot just over the outstretched hand of a closing Tarin Smith. The loss snapped Duquesne’s non-conference win streak at 11. Smith and first-year graduate transfer Emile Blackman led Duquesne with 18 points each. Mike, who went 7-of-10 from the field, finished with 17. The Dukes forced eight turnovers in the first nine minutes of the second half in taking their largest lead at 61-53 lead on a Mike dunk with 12:04 left. Mike’s field goal was the Duke’s last until the 1:25 mark. All 11 DU points during the field goal drought came from the foul line. Canisius took its first lead since the opening two minutes of the second half when Jermaine Crumpton, who led Canisius with 18 points, grabbed a 3-point miss and put it back to make it 72-70. Blackman tied it at 74-74 on a driving layup with 1:25 left. Following a Canisius turnover, Lewis II drove and had his shot blocked out of bounds. DU inbounded with seven seconds on the shot clock and Blackman was fouled and hit one of two to make it a one-point game with :29 left. Valenti tracked down a Kassius Robertson 3-point miss and layed it in, setting up the final exchange of baskets. Canisius went 13-of-26 from the arc in shooting 50 percent overall. Duquesne, which outscored the Griffs 42-22 in the paint, was 4-of-17 from the arc and 21-of-32 from the foul line. The Dukes, who were 0-of-7 from 3-point in the second half, finished at 48.1 percent. The Golden Griffins hit seven of their first 11 3-point attempts in building a 33-22 lead. Canisius took its largest lead at 43-31 on a Kassius Robertson 3-pointer, the Griffs ninth, before Duquesne roared back with a 10-0 run to make it 43-41 at the half. There were 10 ties and 17 lead changes in the game.

RECAPDe’Aaron Fox led five players in double figures with 16 points, as No 2. (AP) Kentucky extended its home win streak to 40 with a 93-59 win over Duquesne at Rupp Arena. Emile Blackman and Tarin Smith led Duquesne with 13 and 10 points respectively. Isiaha Mike had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Dukes. Kentucky, the highest-ranked team Duquesne faced since December of 2006, held the Dukes to 30.4 percent shooting, including 5-of-25 from 3-point. “That’s one of the most talented teams I’ve seen with their length, athleticism and depth,” said Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry. “And then when [Kentucky head coach] John [Calipari] gets these guys playing this hard, its overwhelming. At times I thought we couldn’t make a pass - and we couldn’t get by anybody - and when we did, the ball was blocked.” Seven UK players combined reject 10 Duquesne shots. “The game plan was to make them try to take 30 threes,” said Ferry. “When they missed, they were just relentless on the glass to get 16 offensive rebounds like that. They just keep coming.” Kentucky, which went 7-of-26 3-point, finished with 19 second-chance points and outscored the Dukes 44-20 in the paint. The win made Kentucky 122-4 at Rupp Arena under Calipari. “I’ve been doing this for 19 years and this is the best college atmosphere I’ve ever been involved in,” said Ferry. “An hour and a half before the game there were 2,000 people here. That’s something special. Its a great advantage and I don’t know that they are going to lose another one here.”

RECAPJacolby Mobley hit a 3-pointer at the final horn to give UT Martin a 66-63 come-from-behind win over Duquesne in a Bluegrass Showcase game at Palumbo Center. Mobley’s 3-pointer capped a comeback from 16 points down for the Skyhawks who trailed 52-36 with 13:32 left. Emile Blackman and Isiaha Mike led Duquesne with 19 and 15 points respectively. Mobley led all scorers with 25. Duquesne was up 14 with 9:32 left, before Matthew Butler began a 9-0 run with a 3-pointer. Mobley ended the run with the third of three consecutive layups with just over seven minutes to go. Duquesne missed eight consecutive shots over a 6:33 span before Blackman made it 63-56 on a drive with 4:55 remaining. The DU shooting drought continued - the Dukes missed 17 of their last 19 shots - as UTM tied it at 63-63 on a pair of Kedar Edwards free throws with 3:13 left. From that point on, Duquesne missed four shots and UT Martin missed three before Mobley’s game-winner. Blackman missed the front end of a one-and-one with :28.5 left to set up UTM’s final possession. The Skyhawks called a timeout with :03.3 left to set up the final play. Mobley got the ball just left of the top of the key. There was contact with Tarin Smith before Mobley pulled up and hit the jumper. Duquesne finished at 37.5 percent from the field, including 6-of-23 from 3-point. UT Martin, which came into the game averaging 84.6 points per game, finished at 34.8 percent, including 9-of-28 from 3-point. The Skyhawks, who outrebounded the Dukes 49-38, turned 16 offensive boards into 14 second chance points. There were three ties and four lead changes early, before Josh Steel hit the first of back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Dukes a lead they would maintain until the final shot. Isiaha Mike added a dunk and 3-pointer and Smith added a fourth 3-pointer in just under five minutes to complete a 14-2 run that gave the Dukes a 32-20 lead. Darius Lewis added his second career double-double (13-10) for the Dukes, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Duquesne took its largest lead at 61-43 on a pair of Eric James free throws with 9:40 left, only to see Cleveland State score the next 18 points to tie it on a Demonte Flanigan bucket with 5:18 left. DU led by one when Lewis II hit a jumper and Steel followed with a pair of three throws to make it 72-67 with 2:43 to go. CSU would get no closer than four the rest of the way as Duquesne got baskets from Emile Blackman and Darius Lewis followed by a pair of free throws from Rene Castro to make it a nine-point game with 1:06 left. The Dukes, who broke out of a three-game 15-of-65 3-point slump by hitting 6-of-14 from beyond the arc, held Cleveland State to 38.5 percent shooting. Steel (three 3-pointers) and Lewis II combined for five of the six 3-point makes, as DU finished at 49.1 percent from the field. There were three ties and 12 lead changes in a first half that ended with the Dukes on top, 33-30. DU closed the half with a 9-2 run fueled by a James 3-pointer and a pair of buckets by Darius Lewis. The Retrievers hit seven of their 12 3-pointers in a seven minute span late in the first half to take a lead they would never relinquish. Rene Castro came off the bench to lead four Dukes in double figures with 15 points. Emile Blackman had 12 and Mike Lewis II and Tarin Smith added 11 and 10 respectively for DU. Duquesne led 21-14, before UMBC went on a tear, getting seven 3-pointers from five play-ers in a little over seven minutes to take a 45-36 lead. The Retrievers hit 15 of their last 17 shots to build a 52-43 halftime lead. The Dukes shot 64.3 percent in the opening 20 minutes, but still found themselves down nine, primarily due to 10 turnovers. Lewis II, who scored all 11 of his points in the second half, scored six out of the break to pull the Dukes within three, before DU turned it over three-straight times. UMBC capitalized by building its lead to 13, with K.J. Maura, Sherburne and Rodney Elliott all hitting 3-pointers during a 12-2 run that put the Retrievers up 64-51 with 14:39 left. The UMBC lead reached a game-high 16 on Sherburne’s fourth and final 3-pointer a little over a minute later, before the Dukes chipped away,cutting the lead to five twice, first at 4:20 and again at 2:38. DU could get no closer as Lyles scored five down the stretch to seal the win. Duquesne held UMBC to 32 percent shooting in the second half, but couldn’t make up ground by turning it over seven times, while making just four of 15 3-point attempts.

RECAPEmile Blackman scored a game-high 21 points to lead Duquesne to a 64-55 win over Pitt in the annual City Game at PPG Paints Arena. The win was the Dukes’ first in the series since 1998, ending a 15-game losing streak. Mike Lewis II had 15 and Tarin Smith added 12 for the Dukes, who limited Pitt to 33.3 percent shooting. Duquesne, which trailed by one at the half, took a one-point lead on a Blackman 3-pointer with 15:54 left. The Dukes upped the advantage to nine on a Lewis II 3-pointer at the 12:35 mark before Pitt held DU without a field goal for over five minutes to regain the lead on a Ryan Luther bucket with 6:55 to go. DU answered with back-to-back 3-pointers from Blackman - his fourth - and Rene Castro to take a 53-46 lead with 5:30 left. Pitt pulled to within two on a Luther free throw before Lewis II hit a jumper, then was fouled by Luther on a 3-point attempt and buried all three free throws to make it 58-51 with 2:01 to go. Pitt would get no closer than five the rest of the way. There were four ties and 10 lead changes early, with neither team mustering a lead of more than two. The score was tied at 18-18 when Duquesne endured a 5:25 stretch without a field goal. Eric James ended the drought with a layup which made it 27-20. RECAPIsaiah Still hit a driving layup with 15 seconds left and followed it with a big block at the other end to help Robert Morris to a 64-60 win over Duquesne at PPG Paints Arena. Still, who finished with a game-high 22 points, drove into traffic to bank in the go-ahead bucket and followed that with a block of an Emile Blackman layup attempt five seconds later. Clive Allen, who finished with 11 points, hit four free throws in the final seven seconds to ice the win. “That was a heck of a shot he [Still] made at the end of the game,” said Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry. “Off balance with guys all over him. You’ve got to give him credit.” Mike Lewis II, who gave the Dukes a 59-58 lead on a drive with 30 seconds left, led four Dukes in double figures with 15 points. Blackman fin-ished with 12 and Nakye Sanders added 11 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks off the bench. “That was a physical, hard-fought game by both teams,” said Ferry. “I thought they outscrapped us in the first half and we outscrapped them in the second half. For us, like most of the times, it came down to turnovers and free throws.” Duquesne, which shot 38.3 percent, turned it over 16 times, including nine in the second half. Robert Morris shot 41.7 percent in the game that featured 11 ties and 17 lead changes. The Dukes and Colonials both went 9-of-19 from the foul line. “It doesn’t matter what the records are when you play Robert Morris,” said Ferry. “This is what the game’s going to be. “Turnovers obviously hurt us. They have been hurting us all year.” Robert Morris took its largest lead at 42-33 on a Matty McConnell jumper with 18:27 left, before Duquesne rallied to tie it on a Sanders layup with 14:58 to go. RECAP Isiaha Mike’s 3-pointer with 15.9 seconds left proved to be the game-winner as Duquesne rallied from five points down with 1:34 remaining to defeat Cen-tral Connecticut State, 70-67, at Palumbo Center. Mike, who tied with fellow freshman Mike Lewis II for team scoring honors with 17 points, took a pass from Lewis II - who had drawn an extra defender near the top of the key - and buried the 3-pointer from the left wing. CCSU’s Mustafa Jones missed a con-tested jumper from the foul line and Emile Blackman, who finished with 11 points, rebounded the miss and hit a pair of free throws with :01.9 left to seal the win. CCSU matched its largest lead on a pair of Eric Bowles free throws that made it 67-62. Mike followed by hitting one of two free throws and Blackman added a layup to set up Mike’s game-winner. The Dukes held the Blue Devils without a field goal over the final 2:21. Duquesne shot 50 percent in the second half and 44.4 percent for the game. CCSU, which went 6-of-11 from 3-point, finished at 41.7 percent. Second-year JC transfer Tidell Pierre, whose previous career high was 12, went 2-of-2 from the 3-point arc in scoring a game-high 21 points. Pierre entered the game 1-of-3 from 3-point in his first 29 games at CCSU. Neither team led by more than three in a first half that ended with the score tied at 27-27. RECAPEmile Blackman led five Duquesne players in double figures with 17 points as the Dukes held off Fordham for a 75-72 win at Rose Hill Gym in the Atlantic 10 opener for both schools. Blackman and Mike Lewis II, who finished with 15, were big down the stretch, combining for nine consecutive points after Ford-ham took a 66-64 lead with 2:56 left. Lewis II started the run with a 3-pointer. Blackman followed with a big put back, then Lewis II and Blackman followed with two free throws each to make it 73-66 with 12 seconds left. First-year graduate transfer Kale Abrahamson came off the bench to post his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Nakye Sanders and Isiaha Mike contributed 10 points each. Duquesne outrebounded Fordham 59-32. The 27-board margin was Duquesne’s largest in five seasons under head coach Jim Ferry. DU turned it over just 13 times against a Fordham defense that entered the game ranked second nationally in turnovers forced per game at 20.7. Duquesne held Fordham to nine field goals, while outrebounding the Rams 35-14 in jump-ing out to a 40-28 halftime lead. DU missed 11 of its first 14 shots to open the second half, as Fordham cut the lead to 46-43. The Dukes responded with a pair of Lewis II free throws followed by a Rene Castro 3-pointer - the first after five team 3-point misses to open the half - to make it 51-43 with 12:17 left. Castro had 7 points, 4 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists with just one turnover in 30 minutes off the bench. Fordham tied it for the first time on a steal and layup by Joseph Chartouny with just over five minutes remaining. Antwoine Anderson, who scored all six of his points in the final seven-plus minutes, hit a layup to give Fordham its first lead at 65-64 with 3:45 to go. Anderson made one of two free throws to make it a two-point game before the Lewis II/Blackman 9-0 run.

RECAPMo Alie-Cox went 9-of-9 from the field, as VCU rode a hot-shooting second half to a 94-87 victory over Duquesne at Palumbo Center. The win was the sixth in a row for the Rams who shot 62.5 percent in the second half to break open a tight game. Samir Doughty had 23 points - including 16 in the second half, 9 assists and 7 rebounds to go along with Alie-Cox’s 18 points for VCU. Mike Lewis II led Duquesne with a career-high 23 points. Emile Blackman added 19 for the Dukes, who saw their win streak snapped at four. With the score knotted at 48-48 and under 14 minutes remaining, VCU went on a tear, hitting 16 of its next 22 shots to build its lead to 92-74. DU closed the game with a 13-2 run over the last 1:27 for the final margin. Alie-Cox had three dunks during a 12-2 VCU run that gave the Rams a 62-50 lead with 11:06 left. Duquesne, which shot 56.3 percent in the second half, rallied to pull within six on a Kale Abrahamson 3-pointer at the 8:12 mark. Jonathan Williams then converted a three-point play and Doughty added a 3-pointer to up the Rams’ lead to 12. DU, which went 9-of-16 from 3-point range, briefly cut it to nine on another Abrahamson three, before VCU answered with a Doughty bucket and an Alie-Cox dunk to build the lead back to 13 with 5:34 to go. VCU, which had a 38-31 advantage on the boards, outscored Duquesne 46-38 in the paint. Duquesne shot 48.3 percent for the game. VCU, which was just the second team to shoot 50 percent or better against the Dukes this season, ended up at 56.9 percent. There were three ties and six lead changes in a first half that ended with VCU up 37-33. Lewis II scored 10 of his 13 first-half points in the final 5:35 for Duquesne.

RECAPJordan Price scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half as La Salle withstood a furious Duquesne rally to pull out an 88-81 win over the Dukes at Tom Gola Arena. The Explorers hit 20-of-20 free throws in the second half in holding off the Dukes who cut a 13-point deficit to three with 4:05 left. Rene Castro led the charge for the Dukes with 19 points - including five 3-pointers - all in the final 8:12 of the game. Emile Blackman, who went 4-of-7 from 3-point, added 18 for the Dukes who finished with five double-digit scorers. There were four ties and five lead changes in the first half that ended with the score knot-ted at 36-36. Price, who was 1-of-5 from the field at the half, scored eight in the opening minutes of the second half to give La Salle a 53-46 lead with just over 14 minutes left. The Explorers lead reached 13 when Isiah Deas hit his third 3-pointer of the game to make it 66-53 with 8:32 remaining. Price, who hit all four of his 3-pointers in the second half, buried one with just over seven minutes remaining to make it 71-59. DU responded with a 9-0 run consisting of an Isiaha Mike layup, a Castro jumper, a Mike Lewis II jumper and Blackman 3-pointer to make it 71-68. The Dukes got the ball back on a Lewis II steal, but Blackman couldn’t convert with 2:48 left. The Explorers then got a pair of free throws from Pookie Powell and a big 3-pointer from Price with 2:16 to go to make it an eight-point game. Duquesne cut it to five on a Castro 3-pointer with 41 seconds left, but La Salle hit four free throws in the final 38 seconds to seal the win. Mike finished with 14 for Duquesne, while Lewis II and Na-kye Sanders added 11 and 10 points respectively. Mike and Blackman led the Dukes with 7 rebounds each. Duquesne, which had four more 3-pointers than La Salle, outshot the Explorers 43.7 percent to 42.9 percent. La Salle, which finished 24-of-25 from the foul line, outscored the Dukes 24-5 from the stripe.
NOTES Rene Castro scored all of his team-high 19 points in the final 8:12 ...
