What yOu’Ve tOlD us in 2016:

Throughout 2016 ACHPER Victoria collected feedback from more than 1000 teachers who attended our professional learning events. We asked one question: What is your greatest challenge as a teacher of HPE?

here’s what we discovered about you: • YoudoanamazingjobdeliveringhighqualityHPE

with the time restrictions you have. Prioritising becomesakeyskillasdoestimemanagementwhendealing with the challenge of delivering a large amount of content in limited time.

• Youarecognisantoftheimportanceandvalueofplanningaviablecurriculumwitheffectiveandpurposeful assessment. Engaging with ongoing professional learning to support curriculum planning and assessment is critical in building professional capacity.

• Thedesireandmotivationtohaveeverystudentengaged in educative outcomes through HPE is high. Weknowyouaimforperfectionandsupportingyourskillsinclassroommanagement, behaviourmanagementandstudentdifferentiationiscritical.

We also discovered, from delving a little further into our data:• PrimaryHPEspecialistscanfeellonelyand,by

supportingcollaborationandnetworking,wecanhelpease the sense of isolation.

• VCEteacherswouldlikemoresupportthroughresources and ACHEPR Victoria continues to develop our resourcestosupportVCEPE,HHD,OESandVETSportand Recreation.

• Studentengagementisacommonchallengeforsecondary teachers and this is where increased support incurriculumplanningcanmakeakeydifference

• Pre-serviceteachersarepredominantlyconcernedabout employment.

• Yourneedsasateacherchangewithyearsofexperienceand there is great value in obtaining support and mentoring from those with more experience.
