Welcome2016 brings along a wonderful year of celebration for The Cuan markingtwenty-five exciting years in business. We have compiled a diverse andenticing Booklet of Events to help us mark this fantastic milestone.

Twenty-five years of memories for guests and staff alike; signature dishes,celebration meals, family gatherings, wonderful events and the changingfaces of The Cuan. Our journey has been exciting, challenging and very rewarding.We have been touched by many wonderful people and shared in manyvery special occasions in The Cuan. 2016 is a year devoted tocelebrating the wonderful foodand drink products that we havein Northern Ireland.To that end The Cuan has lookedno further than their shores todevelop a range of dishes thatshowcases the amazing flavours,colours and health properties ofour seaweeds. Gus Heath hasfarmed these shores for manyyears and is stimulating with hisknowledge of incorporatingvarious seaweeds in to oureveryday dining. DeLorean DayIn the 30th Anniversary year ofthe iconic movie ‘Back to theFuture’ The Cuan is the chosenlocation for this year’s annualDeLorean rally. Make time tocome to Strangford and you willbe rewarded with the incrediblespectacle of ten or more of theseunique and rare vehicles plus anopportunity to chat with some ofthe owners to get a greaterinsight to this iconic gull-wingedcar.

Our new summer menu will beavailable with many temptingdishes for you to choose from.

Coffee Morningfor Charity Our designated charity this yearis the Alzheimer’s Society.The Alzheimer’s Society believepassionately that life doesn’t endwhen dementia begins. They arethere for anyone affected bydementia, and do everything theycan to keep people withdementia connected to their livesand the people who matter most.Please support this charity bybringing along your friends andfamily between 10:00am and12:00pm to enjoy some of Peter’sdelicious scones, homemade jamand fresh cream plus tea andcoffee.

GAME OF THRONESMurder Mystery Night *Ramsay Bolton, the ruler of Winterfell, is surrounded by intrigue andmenace. With rumours of a rebellion by the Lords of the North andplots from King’s Landing threating his position of power, Ramsay isdesperate to regain some sense of control. But all is not well, whocan he trust, Rickon surely? Not Littlefinger? His wife to be SansaLannister? Or a mysterious stranger? Murder and mayhem is in the airand you must help solve our latest mystery.

Fruits of theLoughFish and FloraThis years our very popular FishNights will focus on the diversityof seaweeds in Strangford Loughand how they compliment ourvery popular fish dishes. What alist of attributes this flora has:exceptional nutritional values,explosive flavours, varied texturesand zero carbon footprint –literally from the shore to thedoor!'Here, taste this,’ Gus Heath says,tearing off a small strip from aglistening mass of dark-red leaves.Crunchy and fresh, with a delicatesaline flavour, it is surprisinglygood. 'That’s dulse. It’s atraditional snack. We dry it andeat it like crisps’. Now, we at TheCuan, have developed an amazingrange of dishes featuring theunsung delights of StrangfordLough.

World SkiffRowing EventStrangford Lough and LecalePartnership are hosting theinternational coastal rowingevent, ‘Skiffieworlds 2016’.

800 competitors, some from asfar away as the United States andTasmania, and up to 60 boats, areexpected to participate in theseWorld Championships for the StAyles’ Skiff class of coastal rowingboat. Come and watchcommunities from around theworld participate in this colourfuland friendly celebration of coastalrowing from Monday 25th –Saturday 30th July. Social eventswill take place throughout theweek culminating in StrangfordVillage Square on Saturday 30thwith music provided by The Cuan.

We look forward to being a focalpoint throughout the week forthe crews, supporters andspectators.

Sunday 28th August

StrangfordFestivalThe rebirth of StrangfordFestival encapsulates all that isuniquely special to a vibrantvillage community. The festivalwill run from Friday 26th to bankholiday Monday 29th.

On Sunday 28th The Cuan aremaking a bid to set a WorldRecord in the number of peopleinvolved in the ceili dance – TheWaves of Tory. We havearranged for the amazing CrossKeys Ceili Band to guide usthrough this attempt.

Friday 9th& Saturday 10th December

Carol ShipsVisit Strangford Village to enjoythe unique festive celebration ofthe Carol Ships with Christmasmarkets, Christmas music,storytelling, decorated boats,streets and monuments. Thedecorated Strangford ferry willcross the Lough every fifteenminutes with music performedonboard by groups and choirsfrom a 30 mile radius ringing outacross Strangford Lough.

Peter, from The Cuan, will beserving festive pulled pork bapswith spiced apple sauce andfestive stuffing down by the ferryterminal.

GeorgianChristmas Lady Dunleath, local foodhistorian, has helped us researchthe popular dishes of theGeorgian Christmas in providingthree wonderful cookery booksfrom 1830 from her estatelibrary. The Cuan will recreate thisspirit of opulence and festivefood. Peruse this period menucreated by our talented team inthe kitchen enjoying the bestlocal ingredients prepared withage old traditional methods. October November December

LookingAheadto 2017

The Cuan boasts an exceptionally strong connection to this world renownedmedieval drama being their choice for accommodation and food whilefilming in nearby Winterfell Castle. Cast members including Ned Stark(Sean Bean), King Robert, Queen Cerssi, Joffrery, Jon Snow, Catlyn, Ayra andBran Stark stayed in The Cuan. Choose the star’s room that you would liketo sleep in, enjoy a menu inspired by the popular foods of Winterfell andwaken up to a unique Winterfell breakfast.

Drive or walk the short journey to Winterfell Castle. Book an archerysession with ‘Jon Snow’, walk in the footsteps of Tyrion Lannister and NedStark, visiting the various filming sites taking in Rob’s Camp, Ned’s picnic,Baelor Battlefield, the Lannister Camp and many more filming locations.
