10am, Wednesday 15th November 2017 marks an auspicious moment in Australia’s history. The moment that results of the same-sex marriage postal vote were revealed to the Australian public. No matter your personal view on the matter, the fact that 80% of eligible voters took part in the survey suggests that the 61% Yes vote well and truly represents the wider opinion of Australians collectively. Our own electorate of Wannon essentially mirrored the national averages with 81% voting and 61% of those voting Yes. This may surprise some, but it is reflective of the mindsets of the vast majority of our students who when asked, roll their eyes and say, “what’s the fuss about? surely love is love.”.

Warmer Weather and Sun Smart Policy

There has been a spate of warmer days – apparently more than we have experienced in over fifty years. The College grounds can be a warm place so we urge all students to take sun smart precautions by staying in the shade where possible, wearing a hat, applying sunscreen and staying hydrated. All House offices have free sunscreen that is available to students and should be reapplied during the course of the day. Yard duty teachers will also be roving with sunscreen and requesting that students take precautions.

It has also come to our attention that a pocket of students are exiting the campus after period two – some with parent support and some without – to spend the afternoons at the beach on hot days. Whilst time in the sun is pleasurable we would like students to maintain their focus on their studies. We ask that parents access Compass to check attendance data for their child. Whilst the end of the year is approaching it is still imperative that all students are present and accounted for.

Student Leadership camp

The House Student Leadership camp took place on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. It was great to see the students giving voice to the future direction of the College. Much of the first day was spent reflecting on staff, student and parent opinion data. This was then discussed amongst the student cohort as a group and also within their respective House groups. Each House student group will be identifying two key areas of focus for the coming year. We look forward to the implementation of their plans and the fruition of their goals.

Warrnambool Clontarf Academy’s Night of Nights!

In what was a wonderful culmination of the year, Warrnambool Clontarf Academy celebrated with their annual ‘2017 Presentation Ceremony’ night on Wednesday 15

th November.

The night was extremely well received and included proud parents and families, representatives from Brauer and Warrnambool College, various Primary Schools, Partners and Business Associates who have all directly or indirectly supported the boys in the academy and the program itself.

To start proceedings for the night Jordan Gould completed the ‘Welcome to Country’ in language for everyone.

Like all programs our success is only possible with the huge network and support that surrounds us. It was therefore

imperative to thank the necessary people and businesses who have helped us deliver our program and more importantly played such vital, positive roles with the boys this year.

The next part of the evening was dedicated to acknowledging each boy within the academy and their success over the year with framed certificates. The official presentation then took place with the 2017 Award winners and Year 12 Graduates being recognised.

Attendance Award Xaen Billinghurst 98%

Education Award Jirra Clarke

Respect & Integrity Award Josh Hrabar

Training & Games Sam Biasol

Leadership Award Tie – Joel Campbell and Isaac Dalton

Clontarf Champion Latrell Campbell

With everything completed for the formal part of the evening it was now time to sit back and view the DVD of the year’s events, activities and highlights. The slide show captured the year in photographs and movie format that was an excellent way for the boys to review their experiences and the rest of the audience to get a grasp on what the program and initiatives entailed.

Congratulations to all award winners and to everyone who attended to help celebrate on what was deemed another successful year for the Warrnambool Clontarf Academy.
