Mary Ritter Beard, historian and advocate of social justice, once wrote, “The results of philanthropy
are always beyond calculation.” Ten years ago, members of our community came together to form
the Community Foundation of Teton Valley, with the goal of hosting the Tin Cup Challenge, a new
fundraising program benefitting our beloved local nonprofits.
Flash forward to 2017, and the Tin Cup Challenge has awarded over $11 million in 10 years to
provide critical nonprofit programming in Teton Valley. One simply cannot calculate the amount of
good that has been accomplished through this decade of community generosity. The Tin Cup has
helped our local nonprofits augment our lives in countless ways by supporting their work in the
fields of animal rescue and safety, arts and culture, civic service, conservation and environment,
education, health and human services, and sports and recreation.
In 2017, the Tin Cup Challenge raised over $1.53 million in charitable funds, an astonishing sum
in a community of just over 10,000 residents. One in four households participated in giving
through the Tin Cup Challenge, with a median gift size of $250. Due to a record-breaking number
of donors supporting the Challenger Fund Match Pool, 45 participating nonprofits received
matching grants of 55%.
At the Community Foundation, we serve the entire valley through our work with donors and
nonprofits. We help donors fulfill their philanthropic visions by providing local expertise and
access to multiple giving vehicles. We assist local nonprofits in fundraising, capacity building,
and education in best practices – all to ensure good stewardship of donor resources. We serve as
a catalyst in addressing critical and emergent community needs, by convening and supporting
community stakeholders.
During our first decade, this impact has been made possible by your enthusiasm, volunteerism
and willingness to invest in our community through charitable giving. We deeply appreciate your
dedication and support in elevating lives through the power of generosity!
The results of philanthropyare always beyond calculation.

Donor Advised & Agency Fund ManagementThe Community Foundation’s experienced staff facilitates donor giving with insight on community needs, prudent due diligence, and simplified administration. Pooled investment management by professional advisers and constant board oversight gives fund holders peace of mind and enhances the impact of their funds. In addition to working with donors, the Community Foundation also administers agency funds to help nonprofits manage investments.
Tin Cup ChallengeThe Community Foundation of Teton Valley’s Tin Cup Challenge is both an eight-week giving campaign and a one-day event celebrating our community’s spirit of generosity. During the giving period, community members are motivated to donate to their favorite participating local nonprofits, knowing that their gifts will be matched by donations made to the Community Foundation’s Tin Cup Challenger Fund.

Students are responsible for carefully reviewing each grant application, discussing each project’s potential impact in the community and determining how to award their allotted funds.

Workshops are offered at a low cost to participants and are open to staff, board members and volunteers of Teton Valley nonprofit organizations.
