A word of thanks.For 48 years, SOLVE supporters, volunteers and

staff have worked tirelessly to ensure beautiful and healthy neighborhoods, waterways and natural

areas for all Oregonians to enjoy.

2017 proved to be no different.

Beyond the nearly 30,000 volunteers that removed over 400,000 pounds of trash from our beloved

natural areas this year, we saw new initiatives and programs develop that will only continue to grow

and prosper in the coming years.

As you read the stories of success and the outcomes ahead, remember that this could not have been

possible without you and your support, time and dedication. I look forward to another year of keeping Oregon clean and healthy together.

in citi Pick it up, Portland!

Over 700 Portlanders came out in force on August 31, 2017 to make a difference for the first ever Pick It Up, Portland!, a city-wide litter cleanup event. An estimated 4,485 pounds of trash, including over 34,000 cigarette butts, were collected from 11 neighborhoods around the city. This event was a huge win for local community members, businesses and urban natural areas, this event is paving the way for even more city cleanups and restoration projects year round.

Sustainable is attainableIn 2017, SOLVE continued to increase the sustainability of it’s programs by using reusable work gloves and buckets, as opposed to bags, whenever possible. By engouraging volunteer leaders to reuse safety vests and to bring their own supplies when able, we have been able to cut back on shipping costs, unnecessary plastic packaging, and the purchasing of new supplies. SOLVE also fostered a relationship with Terracyle, an organization that recycles vinyl gloves and recycles cigarette butts in their entirety.

SOLVE in Central & Southern Oregon

Over the last 3 years as part of SOLVE’s strategic plan, we have worked to increase the number of SOLVE projects in Southern and Central Oregon. By establishing new partnerships and community liasions, SOLVE was able to support nearly 75 events, engaging more than 1,500 volunteers and collecting almost 40,000 pounds of trash. SOLVE will continue to grow these partnerships while developing new relationships with organizations making a difference across the state!
