2017 through 2018 is a season of restructuring in our Deacon Ministry. Pequea Church is transitioning to Care Teams. The Pequea Care Teams exist to share the love of Christ within our congregation. We will do this by providing care and support to people during many stages and experiences of life, and to offer opportunities to serve and care for one another. We will be motivated by the example of Jesus Christ, whose unconditional love and compassion spurs us on in community. 2018 Deacon Team 2018 Pequea Care Teams – Unlimited 1-year term Jay & Trina Barr 2018 Benevolence: Larry & Heidi Homsher 2018 Jim & Charlotte Blain 2018 Communion & Baptism: Hedy Houghton 2018 Pete & Jenny Grumbrecht 2018 Repair Care: Pat Ward 2018 Larry & Heidi Homsher 2018 Senior Care: Linda Heisey 2018 Earl & Hedy Houghton 2018 Specialized Care: Pastor Dawn Groff 2018

What God is Doing at Pequea Church

Malachi 3:10 “‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’”

Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

We praise God for His blessing on Pequea Church and thank each member and attendee of Pequea Church for giving to the Lord and supporting the ministry of the church. We appreciate the support of our dedicated staff: Pastor Jerry Clonch, Pastor Dawn Groff, Jeremy Denlinger, Bob Detwiler, Melissa Eshbach, Kristin Kondratowski, Walter Kondratowski, Sharon Lambertson, Dee Steele, and Nancy King.

• Developed a capital improvement expenditure worksheet to assist the facilities team to plan and budget future expenditures.• Defined “For Our Future Fund” and “Capital Reserve Fund” with clarity.

Family Ministries:

Children’s Ministries: • 4 elementary students were baptized and 7 others showed interest in being baptized, demonstrating growth in their walk with the Lord.• Over 45 families attended the Fall Movie Night, with 6 families being new to Pequea Church.• Approximately 100 kids and their families joined us for Fall Fest, thanks to the 75 volunteers who made this happen.• Approximately 50 kids in K–Grade 5 are connecting with Jesus and friends every Wednesday night.• 90 volunteers serve in Children’s Ministry on Sundays and/or Wednesdays.• Increased from 6 volunteers who served EVERY Sunday morning in Children’s Ministry to 14 that do so now. Consistent volunteers are

important in building relationships with our children and families.• 6 Children’s Ministry workers attended the Orange Tour (a Children’s Ministry conference) at LCBC in September.• Clarified the guidelines and forms in our Children and Youth Protection Policy, establishing a more efficient and effective process for

clearing and training new volunteers.

Preschool:• The 2016-2017 school year concluded in May with 114 students. There are 103 students enrolled this school year, and 70 already registered

for next year.• Preschool Praise provided preschool families a chance to see what happens at Pequea Church on Sundays again this year and, again,

five families started attending church regularly after this. One of our Preschool Praise guests has since started volunteering regularly in Children’s Ministry and has joined our Pequea Preschool staff.

• Over 10 preschool families decided to make Pequea Church their home church in 2017.• $3,819 was given in scholarships and discounts to families for the 2017-2018 school year. • Approximately 100 families participated in our Preschool Thanksgiving Brunches.• A guest assimilation process was created to help new Toddler Gym families connect to the church better. There were 107 children and adults

that visited TG this school year so far.• 9 parents/grandparents completed a six-week Inspired Parenting class led by a COBYS facilitator in the spring.

Youth:Senior High (grades 9-12) & Junior High (grades 6-8): • Student Life Conference 2017: 16 students in grades 8–9 attended. The morning and evening sessions were powerful, and led to many

group discussions about personal faith. The students formed strong bonds and expressed very open and honest feelings about where they are on their own personal journeys with the Lord. Many of the young men and ladies rededicated themselves to Jesus.

• The Way Extreme at Woodcrest Retreat: in November a group of 10 youth were given the experience of what it would be like to live in a place and time where being a Christian is illegal. They were asked to find hidden directions enabling them to smuggle Bibles to the under-ground church while eluding the guards. It was a powerful experience teaching them about the persecuted church. They ended their evening with a circle of prayer and song. This took place on a Saturday night. The next morning those who attended could not stop talking about their experience. This led to many questions and discussions about the persecuted church and the realization of how blessed we are to be able to openly express our faith.

• Barn Party: approximately 50 youth attended, meeting our goal. Regular attenders invited friends; the one with the most new friends in at-tendance won a gift card for inviting 6 friends. There were 19 new attendees overall, many of whom have returned to youth group as regulars.

• Sunday mornings: in the spring, a large group of Junior High and about 5-6 Senior High were in regular attendance. In the fall, the dynam-ics changed considerably. Junior High is now the smaller group, at an average of 10 students; Senior High has grown to 12-20 students.

• Wednesday nights: in the spring (Thursday nights) the number of attendees decreased due to the change in leadership and spring sports. In the fall, the number of attendees increased in both the Junior and Senior High.

• Switch to Wednesdays: in the fall the Senior High Youth Group was moved to Wednesday nights. Junior High was already following the Wednesday night church schedule. It has been a success; there has been an increase in attendance, as well as getting great feedback from parents who are now able to come out just one night a week. Wednesday night meal attendance has also been encouraged with families.

• Compassion Child: the goal for sponsoring the youth’s Compassion Child was met this year. 2017 began with a deficit, but through a specific goal being set, the goal was reached at year-end.

• Serves: a group of Senior High Youth and advisors went to Christ’s Home in Paradise to help them with some outside work that needed to be done. The tasks included weeding a garden, filling in holes, raking leaves, and picking up twigs and sticks around the property. On Christmas Eve, both the Junior High and Senior High aided in setting up the luminaries for the Christmas Eve service.

• Curriculum: in Senior High, the Sticky Faith curriculum was used; the advisors and students really enjoyed learning how the Bible and the church view the “hard questions” (ex. evolution, women in leadership, etc.). Talksheets was then used, which is discussion-based curriculum, teaching how the Bible fits into everyday teen life. The students have responded well to this type of curriculum.

• Overall: “I am excited about this group. Even though our numbers are lower (compared to before the leadership change) we have a tight-knit group of 6th–10th graders that are woven together in Christian love and unity. They are the future of Pequea Church. They are on fire for the Lord. In the past we had a group that came on Thursday nights to Senior High Youth group, and a different group that came to church on Sunday mornings. Now that group is becoming one and the same. They have already started being missionaries for the Kingdom by inviting their friends from school, some that we know are not saved. Their unity is strong and Christ is their center.” –Tina Havey, Interim Youth Leader

Property and Facility:

• Installed a new holding tank for the septic system. If the contractor would not have put the bucket down and dug one scoop of dirt and hit clean stones, it would not have been discovered that only one seepage bed was in use when we had two. Between $50,000–$75,000 were saved in costs by not replacing the whole septic system. The cost for the holding tank installation was approximately $4,000.

• Replaced the two AC units for All-Star Arena. These units had been low on Freon; one unit was contaminated with oil. It was getting hard to cool the All-Star area downstairs. Now it’s no problem.

• Switched two of the three steeple lights to LED. This will reduce the electric bill.• Switched all the T-12 lights in the old part of the church to LED. This will also reduce the electric bill.• Replaced two of the old vacuum cleaners with new ones. The vacuum cleaners were 17 years old and didn’t pick up much dirt.• Got a Dyson cord-free, handheld vacuum to clean the steps and the auditorium, making cleaning much easier and faster. • Got Norwex® cleaning rags to clean the windows. With these rags, you simply use hot water on one rag and then wipe it with another dry

rag. There are no chemicals used.

Care:

• Benevolent disbursements in 2017 totaled $24,186.68. • Benevolent balance forwarded into January 2018 totals $35,384.10.• The Benevolent team ministered to 41 hospital stays and/or new babies, and dispersed funds to 21 needs, including: counseling, food and

gas cards, medical bills, love gifts for hospital stays, house rent, building materials for small groups and needs, car payment, car repair, and home fuel bills.

• Work began in 2017 to build Care Teams at Pequea Church. These teams (several of which will “launch” in 2018) include: Visitation Team, Senior Care Team, Benevolence Team, Communion and Baptism Team, Stephen Ministry Team, and Repair Care. Care Teams will work with Small Group Leaders and Semester-Based Group Leaders to provide additional touches of ministry to the people of Pequea Church and our community.

• The staff of Pequea Church met every week to pray for the requests and praises offered on Connection Cards in 2017.

Discipleship:

• Semester-Based Groups (SBG) met in 2017 to study topics such as marriage, family, finances, and Bible studies, as well as to organize care packages for our young adults. In the summer months, an SBG of moms with their children enjoyed time at Dawn Groff’s home swimming and getting to know one another.

• In the fall of 2017, Pequea Church grew in discipleship studying “Home Run” by Kevin Myers and John Maxwell. During this six-week study (October 15 – November 19), an average of 172 people participated in a Small Group! Together, all learned God’s game plan for our lives: Winning with God, Winning Within, How to Win with Others, Winning Results, and Scoring—How to Keep Living and Winning God’s Way.

Missions:

• Deeper connections were made with D&M Geiger serving in the Middle East. Notes and postcards from our congregation were mailed to them in March. In July, Pequea Church gave $7,927.47 to Brethren in Christ World Missions toward the pay-off of a new vehicle for the Geiger family. And in December of 2017, we were able to bless the Geiger family with a new laptop for ministry use.

• Updated prayer cards of all Brethren in Christ Missionaries were hung in the Prayer Room. Check these out and commit to pray for those serving all over the world!

• Pequea Church partnered with the Conestoga Food Bank during the Easter and Thanksgiving seasons as we collected and donated dozens of hams and turkeys for gifts in the community.

Connection & Outreach:

• In 2017, we improved the Welcome Center space with new couches, tables, wall accessories, sideboards, and mantle items.• In addition to the furniture and accessories, there was improved communication and resource accessibility with the addition of the

literature racks.• There were many “Big Days,” which gave congregants reasons to invite guests. Some of those opportunities were: comedian Sandi Joy, a

bluegrass band led by JC Bell, Barley & Steele, and a group from New York led by Steven Combs.• Moms were given an opportunity to celebrate with pop-up signs for pictures and a photo opportunity backdrop in the gym. Dads were

honored with a BBQ and Bluegrass bash, with pulled pork from Appel Butcher Shop.• Kids had guests such as: Jesse Rothaker; Mr. Kenny; and jugglers, Chris Ivey, and the DKers.• Kids also had an opportunity to have a huge indoor egg hunt in the gym for Easter.• Two other outreach events were movie nights, showing “Sing,” and “Secret Life of Pets.”• In the fall, three tubs of school supplies were taken to Pequea, Conestoga, and Marticville Schools through the congregation’s generous

donations.

Spiritual Growth:

• 22 individuals made the decision to begin exploring what they believe about Jesus.• 21 adults committed their lives to Jesus as their Lord and Savior.• 22 adults recommitted their lives to Jesus.• 61 individuals committed to take intentional steps to deepen their relationship with Jesus.

Support Services of the Church:

• In the fall, the website redesign was launched. The new design is fresh and mobile-friendly. In 2017, over 180,000 visits were made from over 50,000 unique computers and devices at pequeachurch.com.

• The Pequea social media presence continued to grow in 2017. This media presence assisted the Church to share our story, answer questions, provide resources and encourage our community. 1,400 users follow our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.

• Room 146 received a tremendous upgrade to the sound support by adding new speakers and subs to this room. These speakers are also portable/versatile and could be used for additional church-wide special events.
