Building on our experiences and research, we created the JumpStart MBA Diversity Forum in 2004. Elton Ndoma-Ogar — Co-FounderMBA JumpStart
Elton Ndoma-Ogar graduated with honors from Wake Forest University with a degree in Health Sciences. At Wake Forest, he earned President’s List recognition, was awarded the Arthur Ashe Scholarship, the NCAA Ethnic/Minority Scholarship, and was an Academic All-American. For his community service efforts, Elton was chosen to be on the CFA “Good Works” Team, and was awarded the Exxon Community Service Award.
After graduation, Ndoma-Ogar earned recognition for being among the top 5 percent hospital sales executives while at Johnson and Johnson Medical. He followed that by winning “Rookie of the Year” honors while at Roche Diagnostics Corporation. Ndoma-Ogar earned an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, where he served as Vice President of Sponsorship for its Leadership Conference and finance chair for the Black and Latino MBA Organization. He began is Wall Street career as an Institutional Equity Sales-Trader at Morgan Stanley. Ndoma-Ogar joined Merrill Lynch in 2006 as Head of Diversity Recruiting, where his programs received global recognition, and was promoted to Head of Diversity. From 2009 to 2012, Ndoma-Ogar managed Diversity and Inclusion for BP, Inc. In May of 2012, he joined Raytheon as the Director of Diversity for their Network Centric Business.
A native of Indiana, John T. Burt, Jr. graduated with a degree in finance from Indiana University and gained experience as part of internships in market research, general management, and corporate finance. Building on accomplishments in Eli Lilly’s finance function, Burt wassponsored to pursue an MBA at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
While at Duke, Burt served as an Executive Fellow to the Dean’s office, consultant at Hewlett Packard after the acquisition of Compaq, finance controller of MBA student body fundraising, and won a national competition (Executive Leadership Council) for his commentary on leadership.
After graduation, Burt began his management consulting career as an associate at Booz & Co. (formerly Booz, Allen & Hamilton). Burt then worked as a consultant at Eli Lilly focused on International Treasury (Asia and Africa Middle East) working capital, creating a consulting model for U.S. operations, and was promoted to CFO of a $2B business unit. After years with the Boston Consulting Group being a client of JumpStart, Burt spent 7 years as the Director of Diversity for North America at BCG. Burt currently leads the Import and Export Compliance approach for Eli Lilly. Additionally he is a member of the Dean’s Council at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, Advisory Board member of the Ron Brown Scholar Program, Advisor to the Harvard Business School SVMP Alumni organization, and will be joining the Board for The Oaks Academy later this year. John has also served as an Adjunct Professor of finance, accounting, and business strategy. Previous community focused roles include Treasurer and board member of several nonprofit organizations, mentoring programs, and debt reduction counseling at a local church. As a writer, Burt’s perspective on career and leadership topics has been featured in national publications.

Workshop Description: In this session, rising 2nd years / recent graduates discuss effect recruiting strategies. This panel sets the stage for the Forum and provides early connectivity with the participants and our corporate sponsors. We encourage the participants to push our panelists to share both their successes as well as their failures. Attendees use this session to help develop a winning game plan for the recruiting season.
SUCCESS STORY PANEL: SUCCESS STORY PANEL / BEST PRACTICES
Workshop Description: In this session, industry professionals will present a 100 foot view of the business. Panelists will discuss how the firm ultimately works together to service the client, while generating a profit for itself and its employees. Topics will include: hierarchy of personnel, challenges new hires face, the complex organizational cultures that exist within financial services, different job functions and “day-in-a-life activities”. This workshop will lay the foundation for our experiential activities that take place later in the Forum.
WORKSHOP: INDUSTRY OVERVIEW / CAREER SEGMENTATION
Workshop Description: In this workshop, recruiting representatives will talk about the interview process. They will focus on four key areas: the resume, interview preparation, criteria for decision making, and how to avoid burning bridges. They will share the different types of interview styles- behavioral vs. technical, how to put your two minute story together, and how to seamlessly incorporate your skill sets and successes into the flow of the interview.
WORKSHOP: GETTING THE JOB ... HOW TO PROCEED
Workshop Description: During this block, students selected for the Finance 2.0 Workshop will have the opportunity to dive deeper into specific career tracks. Participant will have the opportunity to experience the “day-in-a-life” scenarios through case studies, lectures, and presentations.
