The Yarram agricultural show is on Saturday and the committee have been working hard to promote and grow the show. Our wonderful teachers spent a few hours at the showgrounds last night setting up and hanging your children’s artwork. Hopefully you will be able to find the time to go to the showgrounds and have a look. On Monday the showgrounds will again be a buzz of activity as the Great Victorian Bike Ride sets up camp for the night. Please be mindful as you drive around the area on Monday and Tuesday that there will be increased traffic on the road and there may be delays getting to where you need to go. Buckley St will also be much busier than normal on Monday afternoon as the bike riders arrive in Yarram and then on Tuesday morning as they start the next leg of their journey. It may be easier to park in Commercial Rd and walk over to the school to drop off and collect your children. (Further information about interruptions with school buses is in- cluded in the news letter.) The main street of Yarram will also be decorated over the next week with Christmas trees decorated by the local school children. Mrs Moore and the grade 4/5 children have been busy decorating the trees ready to be installed. The building project is still on track for completion before the end of the year. Our aim is to be moving back in there during the last week of the term. To facilitate this (and make less things to move!) the children’s belongings will be sent home by Friday 15th December. Issue 37,

23rd November, 2017

Dear parents,

What a busy week ahead for Yarram.

The Yarram agricultural show is on Saturday and the committee have been working hard to

promote and grow the show. Our wonderful teachers spent a few hours at the showgrounds

last night setting up and hanging your children’s artwork. Hopefully you will be able to find

the time to go to the showgrounds and have a look.

On Monday the showgrounds will again be a buzz of activity as the Great Victorian Bike Ride

sets up camp for the night. Please be mindful as you drive around the area on Monday and

Tuesday that there will be increased traffic on the road and there may be delays getting to

where you need to go. Buckley St will also be much busier than normal on Monday afternoon

as the bike riders arrive in Yarram and then on Tuesday morning as they start the next leg of

their journey. It may be easier to park in Commercial Rd and walk over to the school to drop

off and collect your children. (Further information about interruptions with school buses is in-

cluded in the news letter.)

The main street of Yarram will also be decorated over the next week with Christmas trees

decorated by the local school children. Mrs Moore and the grade 4/5 children have been

busy decorating the trees ready to be installed.

The building project is still on track for completion before the end of the year. Our aim is to

be moving back in there during the last week of the term. To facilitate this (and make less

things to move!) the children’s belongings will be sent home by Friday 15th December.

Kind regards

PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS:

The final session of our Swim and Survive Pro-

gram, the St. Mary’s PS Swimming Carnival

was held at Toora Pool on Tuesday 21st No-

vember. The weather was great and children

competed in Freestyle, Backstroke, Breast-

stroke (with and without aids), Basketball

Shots, Sunken Treasure Grab, Noodle Gallop

and Relays in both the middle and deep pools.

A huge congratulations to all students who at-

tended, participated and earnt points for their

house teams, as well as having a fun time.

Children enjoyed a BBQ lunch and then fun

and games with a free choice swim and/or the

Commando in the deep pool. Younger swim-

mers went with older buddies to navigate the

Commando course, with students who were

new to this experience, not being phased at all

by the challenge. There were also a number of

staff members who appeared to be enjoying

supervising students from the water or escort-

ing them across the Commando course.

A big thank you once again to family members

who assisted with jobs on the day and came to

encourage the children. Your support is hugely

valued and without it, we could not run this

type of event which ultimately benefits the stu-

dents beyond the school environment. In 2017

the government has made it mandatory for all

schools to teach swimming as part of their

Physical Education curriculum, which we at St.

Mary’s have already been doing for a number

of years.
