Meriden's HSC students celebrate their fantastic results

Ms Bethany Cook, Mrs Rebecca Fienberg, Karen Chen, Tina Ma, Clara Jin, Annie Dong, Lucy Devine and Mrs Jodie Spooner-Ryan, Director of Music (P–12)

Excellence abounds...

Excellence in Music Annie Dong, violinist, placed 5th in the State in Music 2 and her performance was nominated for inclusion in the annual ENCORE concert. Karen Chen’s and Tina Ma’s performances also received nominations. Held at the Sydney Opera House, the ENCORE concert showcases exemplary works by HSC Music students.

Clara Jin was nominated for her Music 2 Core Composition titled Escapade for clarinet and piano. Influenced by the works of Sergei Prokofiev and Robert Muczynski, Escapade depicts the cyclic delusional chase within a self-created mental paracosm. The piece satirises the turbulent condition of the modern psyche

Tina Ma’s Core Composition has been selected for inclusion in ENCORE. The composition, I Wish I was a Happy Pensioner for clarinet and piano, will be performed by Tina on clarinet and Ms Bethany Cook on piano. Inspired by the works of Aram Khachaturian and Dmitri Shostakovich, Tina’s satirical piece is influenced by Armenian and Russian folk melodies and harmonic structures.

Lucy Devine’s Music Extension Musicology essay was identified as exemplary and will be featured on the honour roll in the ENCORE program. Titled The Beauty of Fibonacci Lucy’s essay explores the use of the Fibonacci sequence in music composition.

Karen Chen, Lucy Devine, Clara Jin and Tina Ma have accepted places at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to study a Bachelor of Music.

Excellence in Visual ArtsAmanda Yao’s major work, a painting titled Immersion into the Twilight Zone, and Olivia Harrison’s major work, four drawings titled At What Cost, were nominated for inclusion in ARTEXPRESS.
