2018 Chemistry Convocation SpeakerDr. Peter Dorhout, Kansas State University

Currently Dr. Peter Dorhout is the Vice President for Research and Professor of Chemistry at Kansas State University. He is also the 2018 President of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society. He joins 27 other ACS Presidents from Illinois.

Dr. Dorhout earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Inspired by long-time Director of General

Chemistry Steve Zumdahl, Dr. Dorhout was a research assistant in Ken Suslick’s group, back then located in Noyes Lab. He received a doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University.

Dr. Dorhout is known for his work in heavy metal solid-state chemistry, detection and remediation. He has been active as a Cottrell Scholar and in many other research, education and outreach positions. For his contributions to the field of chemistry and for his work as an administrator and researcher, Dorhout was named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society in 2013. Dr. Dorhout is the recipient of several prestigious national awards, and his research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. State Department.

2018 Chemistry Convocation SpeakerDr. Peter Dorhout, Kansas State University

Currently Dr. Peter Dorhout is the Vice President for Research and Professor of Chemistry at Kansas State University. He is also the 2018 President of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society. He joins 27 other ACS Presidents from Illinois.

Dr. Dorhout earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Inspired by long-time Director of General

Chemistry Steve Zumdahl, Dr. Dorhout was a research assistant in Ken Suslick’s group, back then located in Noyes Lab. He received a doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University.

Dr. Dorhout is known for his work in heavy metal solid-state chemistry, detection and remediation. He has been active as a Cottrell Scholar and in many other research, education and outreach positions. For his contributions to the field of chemistry and for his work as an administrator and researcher, Dorhout was named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society in 2013. Dr. Dorhout is the recipient of several prestigious national awards, and his research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. State Department.

Currently Dr. Peter Dorhout is the Vice President for Research and Professor of Chemistry at Kansas State University. He is also the 2018 President of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society. He joins 27 other ACS Presidents from Illinois.

Dr. Dorhout earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Inspired by long-time Director of General

Chemistry Steve Zumdahl, Dr. Dorhout was a research assistant in Ken Suslick’s group, back then located in Noyes Lab. He received a doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University.

Dr. Dorhout is known for his work in heavy metal solid-state chemistry, detection and remediation. He has been active as a Cottrell Scholar and in many other research, education and outreach positions. For his contributions to the field of chemistry and for his work as an administrator and researcher, Dorhout was named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society in 2013. Dr. Dorhout is the recipient of several prestigious national awards, and his research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. State Department.
